Chapter 153: The First Trial (2)

Lu Qingyun saw that they were now halfway to the towering flatten mountain as it rose in front of them.

Along the way, a fifth rank desolate beast with eight paws and the head of a lion had suddenly jumped from the mountain ridge to confront him and Leng Qiuyue, startling the two of them.

“The Eight-Legged Duke Lion!” Leng Qiuyue gasped with horror.

The Eight-Legged Duke Lion was a formidable fifth rank desolate beast. More powerful variant of this desolate beast actually existed.  The Eight-Legged King Lion was a sixth rank desolate beast while the Eight-Legged Emperor Lion was a seventh rank desolate beast.

Leng Qiuyue raised her sword as she said hurriedly to Lu Qingyun, “Senior brother, make a break through the trail over there. I will…delay this fifth rank desolate beast for you!”

Lu Qingyun knew how powerful a fifth rank desolate beast was. At the Misty Desolate Valley, even Ling Chong, Ling Xiu and her group could barely fight against the Hundred Eyes Beast. At that time, he had Lie Xingyuan, Ling Chong, Ling Xiu and many others to divert attention from the Hundred Eyes Beast so that he could ready his most powerful sword art against it.

This time, there was only Leng Qiuyue.

Lu Qingyue tapped Leng Qiuyue’s shoulder quietly as he said in a low voice, “Qiuyue…”

Leng Qiuyue was startled. He was calling her Qiuyue instead of junior sister…

“Leave it to me. Make a run for it first.”

“Senior brother, no!” Leng Qiuyue said to him with a firm stare.

Lu Qingyun smiled bitterly, “Qiuyue, your senior brother is really unworthy of you. I will end up hurting you. Don’t you understand?”

“Does it matter if my love for you will be unrequited? I don’t need my love for you to be requited.” Leng Qiuyue was smiling. “Senior brother, you have saved my life three times over. I can only repay you in my next life!”

Lu Qingyun looked at Leng Qiuyue quietly before the two of them nodded at the same time. “Then we shall fight this fifth rank desolate beast at the same time.”

He laughed weakly, “Qiuyue, today senior brother is going to show you my most powerful sword art that I had created. My Flaming Phoenix Sword.”

With a wave of his other hand, he had summoned a wisp of the golden roc flame as he smiled. “If I am not wrong, this attack of mine will be able to butcher that beast, if I manage to hit it at his vulnerable points of course.”

Leng Qiuyue was giggling, “Senior brother, you are so humorous. What do you mean by if you are able to hit it?”

Lu Qingyun was also smiling, “All my sword practices are up against a non-moving target. This one is erm…a moving target and is a desolate beast. How do you aim the body of this Eight-Legged Duke Lion when its head is so monstrous?”

The head of the Eight-Legged Duke Lion was impervious to most weapons and was indeed monstrous. They would have a difficult time sneaking past the past to strike at its body. Moreover, its body was protected by a layer of thick hide that was almost impervious to weapons.

The swords that were in their hands were definitely not any precious swords or divine swords. Therefore it was unlikely to do any lasting damage.

The ground was soon shaking as the Eight-Legged Duke Lion had pounced within thirty paces of their vision.

Lu Qingyun and Leng Qiuyue had no time to think now as they quickly raised their swords. It was a fight or die battle.

As Lu Qingyun, Leng Qiuyue and the Eight-Legged Duke Lion rushed at one another, all of a sudden there was a flash of light as a beautiful maiden had suddenly attacked the Eight-Legged Duke Lion by its side as she shouted, “Heavens Sword Slash, Returning Slash, Lofty Winds’ Dance.”

In that instant, she had combined a powerful martial slashing stroke the Heaven Sword Slash at the side of the Eight-Legged Duke Lion, turned her body around in a returning slash as she slashed against its four powerful paws while evading at the same time and when the Eight-Legged Duke Lion turned its fangs on her, she had leapt away with her Lofty Winds’ Dance lightless skill.

While in mid-air, she had raised her sword and a sword spirit was manifested from her profound aura as her sword and spirit aura became one, “Rippling Three Heavens Spirit Sword!”

As her sword energies struck the Eight-Legged Duke Lion, the shockwaves rippled with the thunderous impact and Lu Qingyun reacted quickly by swinging his sword in front of Leng Qiuyue, instantly parrying and imploding the three shockwaves that were directed at them.

The Eight-Legged Duke Lion was rolling on the ground; it was not dead and was only temporary stunned by the shockwaves.

Leng Qiuyue gasped, “She is from the Spirit Sword Manor. The Heavens Spirit Sword is the unique sword art of their celestial clan.”

The stranger maiden had turned to look at Lu Qingyun curiously, “You can see my rippling shockwaves?”

Lu Qingyun said awkwardly, “I have merely sense its approach. I was lucky. Thank you for coming to our aid.”

The stranger maiden smiled, “I didn’t want to come to your aid. But I saw that the two of you are more interested in chatting than fighting this desolate beast therefore I cannot resist stepping in to aid you.”

Leng Qiuyue was flushing as she averted her eyes, “We are only planning our tactics. That’s all.”

“That’s all?” The stranger maiden chuckled, “I saw you kissing him earlier. Because I have recognized the two of you and that is why I am curious enough to step in to aid you.”

Leng Qiuyue smiled awkwardly. Not knowing how to respond to her, she could only said shyly, “Thank you for the aid.”

Lu Qingyun had an awkward smile as he thought, “If Qiuyue did not kiss me earlier then we may end up as feeder for this desolate beast?”

The stranger maiden giggled, “I will suggest that you focus on the trial ahead instead of ‘chitchatting’ too much. Next time, I won’t be there to help you. We may even end up fighting against each other. I’m Qian Jingjing. What are your names?”

“Lu Qingyun and this is my junior sister Leng Qiuyue. We are from the Heavens Ridge Villa.” Lu Qingyun replied immediately.

Qian Jingjing was frowning softly, “You are that good-for-nothing lowest level cultivator Lu Qingyun?”

Lu Qingyun smiled weakly, “Indeed I am. Do you have to add that ‘lowest’ level cultivator?”

“Mmm, that is what everyone is saying.” Qian Jingjing giggled softly.

She swept her eyes at the Eight-Legged Duke Lion before saying, “It seems that this desolate beast will soon recover its strength. Let’s get out of here first.”

Lu Qingyun bowed with his hands, “Thank you again for coming to our aid. We shall not forget this favor.”

Leng Qiuyue said, “Farewell!”

As soon as they had finished biding her farewell, they had turned hastily away.

But all of a sudden they had noticed that this Maiden Qian Jingjing was quietly following them.

Lu Qingyun turned around with a weak smile, “Erm, why are you following us? Didn’t we just say our farewell?”

Qian Jingjing said sheepishly, “Do you own this this road? No right? I’m just happening to walk this way.”

Leng Qiuyue frowned lightly, “You didn’t happen to be lost, am I right?”

Qian Jingjing laughed, “I got separated from my team. Erm, do you mind if I can follow the two of you for a while?”

Lu Qingyun smiled weakly to himself, “She is really lost…”

All of a sudden they could hear screams behind them where they had just left.

“Why is there a fifth rank desolate beast here?!”

“Who the heartless fellow that lure it here…”

“How did the two of them who are in front of us evade this fifth rank desolate beast…”

“The two of them must have known that we are following them and have set a trap for us…”

“Don’t panic! We are many…”

“Senior Brother!”

“Junior Brother!”

Above the sky platform, Qin Keqin heaved a soft sigh of relief as she saw that Lu Qingyun had survived the encounter with the Eight-Legged Duke Lion.

But her ears were flushing because her sharp hearings could hear many negative remarks about her Yun’Er.

“This good-for-nothing cultivator is really freaking lucky to have met a protégé of the Spirit Sword Manor to aid him…”

“What is that maiden name? Qian Jingjing? She is said to be a peaked fourth realm cultivator and she is said to have mastered the Heavens Spirit Sword to the Rippling Five Stage.”

“The Heavens Spirit Sword has a total of Nine Stages. It is a most formidable sword art…”

Qin Keqin quietly whispered to Feng Minyue, “Remind me to teach my Yun’Er some real skills after this tournament. I am feeling a little awkward. I’m going to make him undergo a demonic training to make him a better fighter.”

There was a soft chuckle from Feng Minyue, “You are the one that says you will be letting him focus on pure cultivation and you keep saying that learning how to fight is bad for him.”

“That is before. Now is after.” Qin Keqin hummed softly.

Cultivations and Fighting Arts were two different things. But in the Celestial Realm, the two were often tangle together as the same. A high level cultivator may not necessary mean that they could really fight. Some celestial clans had better fighters than the others due to their unique fighting arts and secret techniques.

The main reason why Qin Keqin did not want to teach Lu Qingyun any powerful fighting arts was because she was afraid that he may be too good in it and remembered who he really was. That was the reason she had only focused on strengthening his realm cultivation.

“Did you see what happens earlier?” Qin Keqin asked Feng Minyue.

“Nope. I was reading. Something crop up?” Feng Minyue replied coolly.

Qin Keqin frowned softly, “You ought to pay a little attention.”

“He is your Yun’Er and not mine. Why should I pay any attention to him?”

Qin Keqin: …

Luckily the attention on Lu Qingyun did not last for too long as there were simply too many cultivators for the eyes to follow one by one.

Moreover, Lu Qingyun was not the only one that was shaming his own celestial clan. At the very least, he was still alive compare to the many others.

Half of the competing cultivators had perished by the second hour.

Many of the celestials above the sky platform were shaking their heads as their candidates fell one by one.

Shen Yufeng was smiling, “I can’t believe this. It seems that more than one third of the competing cultivators are actually lost in the mountains. There are so many that are actually making their way in the reverse direction. This is so unbelievable. And they are the brightest sons and daughters of the heavens. What a joke.”

When Qin Keqin had heard her, she returned a sheepish look. It was because she had no sense of direction even though she was a seventh realm great saintess.

On the other side of the ringing mountains, the Three-Destined Old Man had almost fainted from anger.

It was because while he was looking at the trial that had taken place, Xuan Danfeng had secretly taken his wine bottle and had finished it.

“Didn’t I say that this bottle is yours and this bottle is mine?” He stared coldly at Xuan Danfeng.

Xuan Danfeng returned a sheepish look, “I saw that you are more interested in looking at the trial than drinking so I’ve decided to help myself.”

She stammered, “Are you upset? Surely not, am I right?”

The Three-Destined Old Man grumbled silently, “I’ve never seen anyone like her before…”

He took out another wine bottle from his spatial belt and no sooner had he done so, Xuan Danfeng was asking him. “What wine is this? Care to share it with me?”

The Three-Destined Old Man said unhappily, “Are you here to watch the tournament or are you here to drink? Why don’t you go away from me? I need to focus.”

“It is only images and I can’t hear anything. It is so boring…” Xuan Danfeng chuckled.

“Then why don’t you leave since you think that the tournament is boring?” The Three-Destined Old Man replied coldly.

Xuan Danfeng raised her head with a hurtful look, “You…want me to leave?”

“That’s right.” The Three-Destined Old Man said firmly and with great coldness.

“Fine…” Xuan Danfeng smashed the wine bottle that was in her hand before she stormed off.

The Three-Destined Old Man was suddenly muttering to himself, “Am I being too thoughtless to her? Did I hurt her feeling? Actually she didn’t do anything except for taking my wines. Actually I am usually not such a stingy person…”

“Look at that. That hunchback old man must have been toying with her…”

“That is why she had stormed off like this…”

“I can’t believe that an ugly old man that is uglier than me is capable of hurting such a beautiful maiden. The world must be crazy…”

“That stupid hunchback old man has no real appreciation of beauties…”

“Either he is stupid or a eunuch…”

The Three-Destined Old Man was suddenly flustered all of a sudden. It was because he had not realized that everyone around him had been secretly looking his way ever since that Maiden ‘Xuan Xiaofeng’ had been here.
