Chapter 50: Lotus Sword Mansion Trial (2)

In order to reach the iron pagoda in the horizon, Yuan Ji and Ling Feiyang must first traverse the dangerous vast valley that was populated with dangerous desolate beasts.

And after moving cautiously for about twenty miles, they soon encounter their first desolate beast.

The looming shadow of a large desolate beast that was five times their height was seen between the cliffs. It had three long black horns on its massive head and four massive claws which it used to move its heavily armored body around.

Yuan Ji and Ling Feiyang were both slightly alarmed; it was because their divine sense had indicated to them that this desolate beast was a sixth rank profound desolate beast.

There were altogether nine ranks to a desolate beast in the Celestial Realm and every rank had three classes to denote the threatening level of the desolate beast; Primordial, Profound and Epic.

A profound class desolate beast would always be twice as powerful as a primordial class desolate beast of the same rank while an epic class desolate beast can be many times stronger depending on the species of the desolate beasts.

The epic class of any desolate beasts was always more dangerous and mysterious that any primordial and profound class. Luckily epic class desolate beasts were not easy to be encountered and were extremely rare.

A sixth rank primordial desolate beast was more than a match for an upper golden supremacy to handle alone and moreover this was a sixth rank profound desolate beast.

Yuan Ji nodded as he said with a wary tone, “It is a Black Tyrannical Demon Beast. Very strong and heavily armored at the same time. If given a choice, we should avoid fighting it but it is now blocking our way.”

Ling Feiyang smiled, “We can always take a detour and find another way.”

Yuan Ji frowned. From her expression, it was more like a challenge to fight the desolate beast rather than retreating away from it.

So he said, “We may as well fight it and be on our way to the iron pagoda. If we can evade these desolate beasts which are everywhere, this won’t be a trial anymore.”

Ling Feiyang smiled, “I will follow your lead.”

“Great saint, why don’t you make the first move?” Yuan Ji grinned at her. This was a perfect opportunity for him to observe her skills.

Ling Feiyang nodded as she took out a metallic silver fan from her spatial belt.

With a wave of her hand, the blades of this metallic silver fan had suddenly expanded and formed into a beautiful blue long sword.

A shaper divine sword that could take the form of a fan!

Yuan Ji was startled by it.

Yuan Ji was gasping softly and he was also looking sheepish now. It was because Ling Feiyang’s sword was actually a heaven-step divine sword which was a step higher than his earth-step divine sword.

He was bitterly thinking, “She is from a top unorthodox clan. Therefore it is not surprising that she has a divine sword. So she is just keeping her trump cards while we are fighting against each other three days ago. I should have guessed it.”

The reason why Ling Feiyang had decided to reveal her heaven-step divine sword was because she did not want to expend too much of her profound strength during the trial and that would affect her performances at the later trials.

At the same time that Ling Feiyang had revealed her divine sword, Yuan Ji had also taken out his divine sword with his left hand.

With light steps and a startling speed, Ling Feiyang had dashed to the unsuspecting Black Tyrannical Demon Beast and she was quickly followed by Yuan Ji.

Her sword lights were accompanied by the sword shadows from Yuan Ji as the two of them slashed their swords against the large desolate beast.

With just a few slashes, the profound powers that channeled through their divine swords had quickly penetrated through the thick armor of the large desolate beast.

In just ten blinks of an eye, the Black Tyrannical Demon Beast had crumbled onto the ground and it had vaporized into a dark smog.

Under their fierce barrage of sword slashes, the Black Tyrannical Demon Beast did not even have a chance to retaliate. All in all, they had unleashed more than one hundred slashes in just ten blinks of an eye, averaging five slashes each with each blink of an eye.

“What a pity. There is no spirit core to be taken.”

Ling Feiyang smiled gently as she looked at Yuan Ji before adding further, “So what do you think of our first time cooperation?”

Yuan Ji smiled bitterly. First time cooperation? More like second time.

But he quickly said, “Not bad. But it is only a sixth rank desolate beast.”

Ling Feiyang nodded and smiled, “I wonder how where did you learn your sword art from? Your master must be equally impressive. It will be my honor to know the name of your master and maybe I can even pick up a few tips.”

Yuan Ji was frowning. “You’re already a great saint in your cultivation. Both my master and I are not on your level. Moreover, my master is not around anymore…”

Ling Feiyang smiled, “Or maybe I can have some pointers from you instead?”

Yuan Ji hummed coldly, “Your swordplay isn’t less superior to mine. In fact, it is a lot superior to mine in many ways. As you can see, my swordplay is actually quite ordinary. If I’m not mistaken, you have actually slashed more strokes than me earlier.”

Ling Feiyang smiled gently, “Maybe you have reacted slower than me. You are way faster when we are dueling a few days earlier.”

“Haha. Maybe today I’m not in the right form.” Yuan Ji laughed softly before he turned his back to continue his way.

“You mention that you’re the only personal protégé of your master. Then you must be really be so exceptional good?” Ling Feiyang quickly caught up to him as she asked.

Yuan Ji was secretly cursing her. “Are you here for the trials or to check me out? She is trying to probe me to get a hint of my identity. I ought to be careful when I’m answering her questions.”

But he quickly replied with a soft chuckle, “Actually I was the weakest back then. Haha.”

“Oh? And yet you’ve managed to become a personal protégé?” Ling Feiyang asked curiously.

Yuan Ji laughed, “My old master had set a criteria to the ordinary protégés that whoever wishes to become a core protégé and his personal protégé had to first survive a beating from him first. If we can endure for an hour or we can beat our master then we are qualified.”

“Then you must be quite extraordinary back then?”

“I was only a first realm practitioner level back then. How can I endure a beating from a sixth realm golden celestial like my master?” Yuan Ji smiled.

“But eventually you did. How did you manage to do it?” Ling Feiyang was really curious to know.

“After getting beaten up dozens of times, I’ve finally figured out a way.” Yuan Ji replied proudly and his eyes were beaming. “I’ve beaten dozens of my seniors to become my master one and only personal protégé.”

“You must have undergone a rigorous body tempering training to be able to endure an hour of beating from your master?” Ling Feiyang offered a quick guess.

“You got to be kidding me.” Yuan Ji laughed out loud. “I was only 16 then. A punch from a golden celestial will surely break my bones and my master is quite a sadist. He makes sure that we are all lying on the bed for several months each time we attempt to pass his core protégé examination.”

“But I pass it within a minute and emerge unscathed.” Yuan Ji laughed aloud.

Ling Feiyang was startled as she gasped with shock, “You’ve beaten your master up?”

Yuan Ji took an amused look at her, “Rather than say I’ve beaten up my master, I will rather say that I had surrendered to my master. Haha.”

Ling Feiyang: ???

“I told my master that I had finally figured out his impossible to pass test. Therefore if he is willing to let me pass, I will surrender all my sect’s contribution points and everything to him in the future. He will be my Great Dao and I will devote my life to become his core protégé. That’s how I had become my master’s personal protégé.”

Ling Feiyang was startled, “You…you bribe your master?”

Yuan Ji rolled his eyes before he answered her, “Rather than saying that I had bribed my master, I will say that my master wanted me to bribe him.”

Then he laughed, “I had actually regretted being his personal protégé for uncountable number of times. If I know that being his core protégé will be such a nightmare thing, I would rather not offer myself in the first place. But in the end, I never regret it because to me, he is the best master ever.”

Ling Feiyang returned a light nod, “A strict master will always bring the best of his personal protégés. Without him, there won’t be the present you now.”

All of a sudden Ling Feiyang was staring at him as she asked, “Have you heard of the name of the Sword Saint Ji Yuan?”

Yuan Ji: …

“Why is she asking me about myself?”

He retained his composure and answered her, “I have heard of him before. Why did you mention him for?”

Ling Feiyang said slowly, “He is one of the greatest swordsmen in the Desolate Celestial Fraternity. You can say that he is even in the top twenty ranking.”

Yuan Ji coughed weakly, “But he isn’t in the top five. Haha.”

Ling Feiyang smiled, “You never know. His sword art may be ordinary but somehow he can be a Sword Saint. You must know that there are only around twenty Sword Saints in the entire Desolate Celestial Fraternity and each one of them is extraordinary in their own ways.”

Yuan Ji was rubbing his chin as he pondered, “Is she hinting me that she knows something? It is impossible that she can recognize my swordplay as from the Orthodox Sword Sect and moreover I have been using my left hand as my sword arm.”

“I’ve a copy of the sword manual of the Orthodox Sword Sect. The swordplay inside is indeed extremely ordinary but yet the Orthodox Sword Sect is able to produce three generations of sword saints in a row. Sword Saint Ji Yuan and Sword Saintess Ye Chengxi are the two more recent Sword Saints. Don’t you feel that this is indeed very strange for such a little known sword sect? You must know that even in the top seven major orthodox clans, it is extremely difficult to produce two generations of Sword Saints.”

“What is so surprising about that? As far as I know, more than half of the Sword Saints aren’t from the seven major orthodox clans, five major unorthodox clans and the three heretic palaces.” Yuan Ji pointed out.

When he had said that, he was also secretly cursing. “It seems that I have a traitor in the ranks of the Orthodox Sword Sect. Luckily, there nothing extraordinary about the sword manual of the Orthodox Sword Sect but why did she have to use the word ‘extremely ordinary’. She can simply say the sword manual of the Orthodox Sword Sect is ordinary. And why did she study my sect’s sword art for? Is she too free?”

Ling Feiyang continued, “Not everyone that is good with their sword art can be a Sword Saint. In order to be a Sword Saint, they have to be acknowledged by the sword altar in the Swords Valley of the Souls. I am definitely not qualified to do so.”

Yuan Ji hummed coldly, “You can definitely be one if you try a little harder.”

Ling Feiyang smiled, “Do you know that the Sword Saint Ji Yuan is renowned for killing his opponents even when the odds are stacked against him? Even if he has only 1% chance, there is still a chance for his opponent to get killed by him.”

Yuan Ji rubbed his chin as he tried to recall silently, “Is she sure about that? I usually don’t try to fight when the odds are less than 30%.”

He laughed, “I had heard after he had gained the title of Sword Saint, he was defeated ten times in a row. He must surely be the most disgraceful Sword Saint ever.”

Ling Feiyang chuckled softly, “I beg to disagree with you. But after losing ten times in a row, he was nearly undefeatable for a long time. I suspected that he had lost on purpose to distract his challengers to the ten earlier challengers.”

Yuan Ji was rubbing his chin. This part was indeed true. He had purposely lost his duels because he was troubled by the daily challenges and he could not cultivate in peace. Was it so obvious?

“Have you heard of the Black Hand Guild? It is the number one assassin guild in the Desolate Celestial Fraternity. At that time the guild leader of the Black Hand Guild was assassinated by Ji Yuan. The odds of that happening were only 1%. At that time, Ji Yuan had only just reached the initial sixth realm level while his opponent was an initial seventh realm expert that was surrounded by many high level cultivators. Yet Ji Yuan could assassinate the top assassin in the Desolate Celestial Fraternity.”

Yuan Ji frowned lightly. That happened like two to three hundred years ago and he had almost forgotten about it.

“Not only did he assassinate the top assassin in the Black Hand Guild, he had even made a secret covenant with the Black Hand Guild to forget about the matter. This is originally a secret that no one is willing to talk about and therefore in the fraternity, there are very few people that knows about it.” Ling Feiyang said coolly.

This time Yuan Ji was looking at her coldly before he said, “Then why are you telling me? Do you want the whole Black Hand Guild to come after me? And how do you know about this matter?”

This was an originally a secret that no one had known about it. The reason why he was able to make a covenant with the Black Hand Guild was because he had threatened to tell the entire fraternity that their leader was in fact assassinated by him. If this matter was to leak out then the Black Hand Guild would lose its reputation and there would be many cultivators that would be looking to seek vendetta with them.

Moreover at that time he had killed most of the top experts in the Black Hand Guild.

At that time he was the target of an assassination by the Black Hand Guild. Therefore out of desperation, he had taken the fight all the way to the secret stronghold of the Black Hand Guild.

“How do I know about this matter? You are asking?” Ling Feiyang was now smiling.

Yuan Ji returned a light nod.

“What if I tell you that I’m now the new master of the Black Hand Guild, will you believe me?” Ling Feiyang smiled.

Yuan Ji slowly nodded his head before he said, “Should I call you Ling Feiyue instead? Since you have already known that I am Ji Yuan, we can all stop our pretenses. So, you are planning to kill me now?”

It had suddenly dawned upon him why he was being aimed by Ling Feiyue in the past. It was because she had a connection with the Black Hand Guild?

“Indeed we should drop all our pretenses.” Ling Feiyue was smiling delightfully now. “So you are finally admitting that you are indeed Ji Yuan. Do you know that I’ve been looking for you all this while?”

Yuan Ji smiled bitterly as he flipped his sword in front of him, “I’ve heard of your 10,000 high grade spirit stones bounty for me so how should I not know?”

Chapter 49: Lotus Sword Mansion Trial (1)

When Yuan Ji had entered into the layer of cloud canopy that was five miles up the steep cliff, his ascend had slowed down to a crawl and he was unable to use his lightless profound art.

It was because the winds on this level were howling fiercely and the pressure had suddenly increased three folds.

He was now relying on his profound strength as he gripped onto the steep cliff as he crawled vertical upward.

He took a quiet look down below and was quite startled to see that Ling Feiyang was still a good distance from him below.

“Why is she so slow?”

He had actually expected for her to catch up with him. It was because in terms of lightless profound art, profound strength and profound recovery, she was his superior.

Once a while, he would purposely slow down for her to catch up with him but Ling Feiyang would continue to stay the same distance away from him.

When he stopped all of a sudden, she would pause too to inhale deeply.

He thought weakly, “This is too fake and her playacting is too poor.”

Eventually he had reached the very top of the steep mountain cliff and in front of him were two portals, one blue and one green.

“It takes me almost an hour to reach the very top…”

The green portal would lead him to the outside while the blue portal would lead him to the next level.

A burst of speeding light flew forth from the heavens toward him.

Yuan Ji caught hold of the speeding light and saw that it was a fifth rank profound pill and it was actually the Red Dragon Divine Pill.”

He was secretly delighted.

To Yuan Ji, this reward was actually extremely good. It was because other than the Red Dragon Divine Pill that Shangguan Yan had given to him, he had never had a second fifth rank profound pill in his life before.

This was actually the second.

Soon after he had obtained his reward, Ling Feiyang had also stepped on the cliff.

There was a burst of speeding light that flew toward her and her reward was actually a third rank profound pill.

Yuan Ji was actually quite surprised to see that her reward for coming second place was actually so worthless. He had expected her to obtain something better.

Ling Feiyang smiled when she saw his expression.

“The first time reward is usually better. I’ve actually been here quite a few times already but I’ve never completed the full trial. This is your first time here?”

Yuan Ji slowly nodded. It was because he never had the opportunity to take the trials at the Lotus Sword Mansion.

“It’s no wonder and moreover you got first place too. Therefore your reward is exceptional good. What did you get?”

“I’ve got a Red Dragon Divine Pill.”

Ling Feiyang gasped softly, “This is really a good reward. You must be really delightful with your reward. This divine pill will be helpful to your cultivation.”

As Yuan Ji was planning to give it to his Yan’Er, he merely smiled at her suggestion.

Ling Feiyang smiled before adding, “Your lightless profound art is actually quite startling. It should be ranked among the top five or top ten in the entire Desolate Celestial Fraternity. What is the name of your lightless profound art?”

Yuan Ji smiled weakly, “Hovering Leaf Maneuver. You will probably never hear of it before.”

Ling Feiyang was forced to admit it. It was definitely not in the list of a hundred renowned lightless profound arts that she knew. “But it is actually better than most of the lightless profound arts that I know.”

Actually Yuan Ji had concealed the best of his lightless profound art in front of her because he still did not trust her. When he was at the peaked golden supremacy level, he had already regarded his lightless profound art in the top five. Now that he was at the initial sacred saint level, his lightness profound art was even better than before.

But he did not want to compete with Ling Feiyang because he was actually keeping this as his secret trump card for running away from her.

He may not win her but he was actually quite confidence in his ability to outrun her.

He knew that Ling Feiyang was now secretly probing his secret skills. Actually he was also trying to observe her secret skills so that when they start to fight, he would have an advantage.

He merely replied her, “I am just the better one among all the protégés of my celestial clan. Most of them aren’t that good. Matter of fact, they can’t even get to the top 1000th ranking. Haha.”

He was actually not lying to her.

Ling Feiyang was startled. It was because any profound arts should not have such a huge discrepancy. So she asked. “How did you train your lightless profound art to be better than the rest of your fellow protégés?”

Yuan Ji laughed sheepishly, “My old master used to tie me to a tree at the top of the cliff and kicked me down the steep cliffs to force me to climb up. If I can’t climb up within three incense time, he will kick me down again. Each time, he will aim at my butt hard and kick me down.”

Ling Feiyang was startled, “Your old master is so mean…”

Yuan Ji laughed. His old master training method was pretty unorthodox and that was why he had never used it on Shangguan Yan and Fairy Ye Chengxi.

He sighed softly in his heart.

He had really missed his funny old master after he had passed away. His training was extremely brutal under his old master because his old master had once said to him, “Our sect is a poor sect without any good cultivation methods and resources. Therefore as my leading core protégé and only personal protégé, I am going to torture you to no ends.”

He really could not remember a single day when he was not injured or heavily bruised under his old master.

“Alright, let’s go to the next level.” He said as he forced out the past memories away before he walked toward the blue portal.

Ling Feiyang nodded gently as she followed him with a quiet smile.

Below the steep cliff, dozens of cultivators were struggling with the climb.

It was really not as easy to them as compared to Yuan Ji and Ling Feiyang. Even the golden celestials were struggling to ascend the steep cliff at the five mile mid-point.

It was even worst for the third and fourth realm cultivators.

All in all, half of them would eventually fail and fall down the steep mountains.

Their only consolation was that if they could climb past the half mile height and if they had fallen from the steep cliff, they would be sent back harmlessly to the entrance of the valley again.

Although many of the cultivators would fail on their first attempt or even multiple attempts, they were not disappointed as it was the experiences of the trial that counted.

Most of the better cultivators would take an average of three hours to complete the climb and they were mostly the golden celestials.

As for the lower realm level cultivators, it would take them an average of six hours to complete the climb and as long as twelve hours for the weakest.

Yuan Ji and Ling Feiyang had now stepped into the blue portal to the second trial.

They had now emerged in a place with tall cliffs around them and in the horizon that was surrounded by the desolate mists was a tall iron pagoda.

“What is this trial?” Yuan Ji turned to ask Ling Feiyang curiously.

Ling Feiyang returned a weak smile, “I’ve no idea.”

“It seems that the goal of this trial is for us to reach this iron pagoda.” Yuan Ji quietly said.

Ling Feiyang nodded as she added, “Reaching that iron pagoda may only be the start. We may have to fight the desolate beasts on the way there first. So shall we wait for the rest…”

But Yuan Ji had already took a step forward as he smiled at her, “So are you afraid? If not, let’s go.”

Ling Feiyang flipped her fan to wave it as she returned a gentle smile, “You’re really a dare devil. If you are not afraid, will I be afraid?”

As she watched his back, she was quietly thinking. “I wonder why I’m following his lead? He really gives me a familiar feeling like that Ji…Yuan.”

“Hmm, Ji Yuan…Li Yuan?”

“Ji Yuan is a Sword Saint and this Li Yuan is also good with his sword…”

“What am I thinking? If he is Ji Yuan, he will be running away from me…”

“Why did he ask me about Xia Jiajia?”

“I really don’t remember seeing Li Yuan a hundred years ago…”

All of a sudden she had a perplexed look. It was because someone with a handsome look like Li Yuan was too noticeable but she did not have any impression of him at all.

The number of golden celestials that she had encountered a hundred years ago in that small town could actually be counted with ten fingers and moreover, she had picked that small town for a reason.

As a matter of fact, the only golden celestials that she had recalled were only Ji Yuan and the three other beautiful bearded cultivators, Xue Qianxue and Xia Jiajia.

The reason why she was suddenly tailing Li Yuan was because she had a strange sense of familiarity about him that she could not put into words.

“Can it be that he has shaved off his beard?”

All of a sudden she had unfolded her fan and was clapping it with the hands before she lit a slow smile, “Ji Yuan is said to have gone on a cultivation retreat for his seventh realm breakthrough and this Li Yuan happens to be at the saint level. This is really such a coincidence.”

“And I don’t believe in coincidences. When there are too many coincidences, it is never a coincidental.”

“Why are you still standing there for? Are you chickening it out?” Yuan Ji was frowning as he shouted to Ling Feiyang.

“Nothing. I’m just thinking about something.” Ling Feiyang returned a bashful smile.

“Well if you still not coming, I’m not waiting for you.” Yuan Ji returned her an uninterested look before he turned his back on her again.

Chapter 48: Prelude to the Lotus Sword Mansion (2)

The Lotus Sword Mansion was not a mansion at all despite it being called a mansion. As a matter of fact, it looked nothing like a mansion at all and was just a portal in a little known valley that was situated between the treacherous mountains.

The reason why it was called the Lotus Sword Mansion was because a heaven grade divine sword with lotus mark was one of the first profound treasures that were found within the place. As for why it was called a mansion, it was because it was a mansion of profound treasures when it was first investigated by the ancient celestials.

But of course as time passed by, the profound treasures that could be found become less frequent and the competition for the profound treasures would also intensify.

However it did not defer the courageous and competitive cultivators.

It was because obtaining a profound treasure was a huge achievement, especially for the smaller celestial clans. Once a profound treasure was obtained, it could even be passed down as a heritage treasure to remember by their once venerable patriarchs and matriarchs, reminding the future protégés that their celestial clans once had a colorful celestial history.

Yuan Ji also had a heritage heaven-step precious sword christened Sky Forth that was passed down to him by his venerable clan patriarchs. But it was gone now, exchanged as a pledge to Xia Jiajia.

He may have lost a heaven-step precious sword but in return, Xia Jiajia had given to him an earth-step divine sword christened Resonate Peak.

In his heart, Xia Jiajia was worth more than the profound treasures of his entire sect. But did she really know how he had felt for her?

“Maybe she doesn’t know that I’m Ji Yuan at all. She is definitely a bimbo…”

“Aiya, I should have told her at the very start. But what if she suddenly decides to break off with me because I’ve lost my beard?”

Finding Xia Jiajia was now his quest. He had to tell her that he was Ji Yuan and he wanted to know her heart for him.

But whenever he recalled seeing her delightful expression as she strolled down the Thousand Cloud Peaks, he began to frown and wondered if she was actually glad to get rid of him and the Emperor Hall Sect.

Right now, Yuan Ji was keenly watching the entrance of the valley and saw that the desolate mists were now shimmering. It was a clear sign that the mysterious portal to the Lotus Sword Mansion was now opened.

Above the valley was an auspicious colorful cloud that had appeared a month earlier and when the portals had closed, this auspicious omen would then disappear.

Throughout the Desolate Celestial Fraternity, there were dozens of trials that would open at interval periods. The longer the period, the more plentiful the cultivation and profound treasures could be found. And of course, the greater the dangers it would be.

The trials of the Lotus Sword Mansion would open every thirty years; this was actually just an average estimate because no one could be sure of its actual opening time unless an auspicious omen had appeared over the vicinity. Sometimes it would open after an interval of sixty years and sometimes it would open after an interval of twenty years.

Many of the more formidable trials had a longer interval period of 100 to 1000 years before it could be seen again.

By the trials standard, the Lotus Sword Mansion was considered to be a poor man’s trial. It was because it had a shorter interval between each appearance. Usually the desolate beasts that were within the portal were also of the lower ranks for the shorter interval trials.

However this was not the case here with the Lotus Sword Mansion. The desolate beasts inside were actually high ranking desolate beasts. It had a high risk warning attached to this trial and the rewards inside were actually much higher than the average trials.

That was why even the top two major orthodox clans had shown their interests here today and that was why the valley was packed with thousands of above average cultivators.

Hundreds of cultivators were now moving quickly toward the shimmering desolate mists below the valley.

There was actually no portal to be seen because the entire shimmering desolate mists were actually the portal. Once anyone had passed through the shimmering desolate mists, they would be taken inside the trials of the Lotus Sword Manor.

According to the knowledge that Yuan Ji knew about the Lotus Sword Manor, the trials inside consisted of five difficulty levels and no two trials were alike and it would also change the next time.

At the end of every level, there was a portal to exit the trial or a portal to the next trial level.

Therefore the cultivators had to carefully weight their options to exit or to continue on.

Yuan Ji was now making his way toward the shimmering portal as he began to follow the crowd that was ahead of him.

Usually the portals would open for a short period of time which typically lasted between three to nine hours.

Although the trials had a short opening, the trials may last for days, months and even years depending on its nature.

“You are not waiting for me?” Ling Feiyang said quietly as she appeared next to him.

Yuan Ji returned an awkward smile, “I don’t want to disturb your chat with my sisters. Moreover, I’ve decided to enter the trials alone.”

“You don’t need me to help you to deal with your enemies?” Ling Feiyue asked gently.

Yuan Ji returned a weak smile but said nothing. He was also afraid that Ling Feiyue would suddenly turn against him during the trial. That was why he had decided to enter the trials on his own.

“I…I have a feud with Xue Qianxue. I admit that I’m not happy that you have been to see her.” Ling Feiyang said quietly.

Yuan Ji was startled that Ling Feiyue had suddenly admitted to him that she had a feud with Xue Qianxue.

“My feud with Xue Qianxue has nothing to do with you.” There was a troubled look on her countenance when she had said that.

But she quickly smiled and asked gently, “So, can we travel together?”

Yuan Ji said nonchalantly, “I’m not stopping you from following me.”

He was sighing secretly. He was not stupid. He knew that Ling Feiyang would try to ask him next what his relationship with Xue Qianxue was before deciding what to do with him.

Never make friends with an unorthodox cultivator or you will be the one that is suffering in the future. That was what his old master had always warned him.

He knew that Ling Feiyue was an unorthodox cultivator and that she was only pretending to be an orthodox cultivator. Once she had assumed her identity as the Dark Mistress Ling Feiyue again, she would be like the other unorthodox cultivators that would impose her will upon the weak and the powerless.

Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue were shouting behind them, “We will wait for you here. Good luck!”

Hua Wuwu chuckled, “And don’t die.”

Hua Baiyue giggled to her sister, “He can die but Young Master Feiyang cannot die.”

Yuan Ji: …

Yuan Ji: …

Yuan Ji: …

Yuan Ji ignored the teases that were from behind him and after a while, he had stepped through the shimmering desolate mists with Ling Feiyang.

There was a glancing bright light as they stepped through the portal.

Yuan Ji found himself with dozens of other cultivators and they were overlooking an imposing mountain cliff that reached to the clouds.

The dozens of cultivators were all looking at one another as they muttered among themselves.

“Where are we?”

“Where the exit portal?”

“You have not even attempted the trial yet and you’re already thinking of leaving?”

“He must be new. The exit portal can only be found at the end of the level. Once we have entered the trial, it is impossible to quit halfway until you can complete the first level.”

“Usually the first level is quite easy and risk free.”

“So we need to climb up this steep cliff to the next level?”

“It appears to be so.”

“How steep is this cliff to the top?”

“I can only see the clouds…”

“10 miles?”

Yuan Ji took a quiet glance at Ling Feiyang before he turned to look at the dozens of cultivators that were presented. Except for Duan Tian and his group which was unfriendly toward him, there was no sight of any of his so call ‘enemies’ around.

He had actually considered Duan Tian and his group to be a non-threatening group and did not put them into his enemy list.

When the thousands of cultivators had entered through the shimmering desolate mists, they would all be split and taken to different locations.

Therefore Yuan Ji was not surprised to see that he was not grouped with his enemies as he had purposely avoided taking the same path as them.

Duan Tian was laughing jovially as he shouted over to Yuan Ji, “So who do we have here? Li Yuan! We have met so soon again!”

Yuan Ji ignored him as he pretended to look the other way.

His group consisted of six other golden celestials and more than thirty cultivators that were all between the third and fourth realm levels.

Duan Tian’s voice was now the largest because he had realized that his group was the most powerful and largest group in this place.

“We’re climbing this steep cliff now. The whole lots of you have better not disturb our climb or don’t blame us for being nasty. This side of the cliff is ours so may the rest of you please go over to the other sides. Haha.”

Duan Tian’s sharp eyes had immediately picked the spot where it was the easiest to make the climb.

Yuan Ji began to frown lightly when he had heard Duan Tian.

He turned to say to Ling Feiyang, “Let’s pick a spot to climb up the cliff.”

“So how do you know Xue Qianxue?” Ling Feiyang had suddenly asked him.

He was startled by how swift her question had arrived.

So he could only smile bitterly as he answered her, “We should be focusing on the trial first, right?”

Ling Feiyang slowly returned a nod before she smiled gently, “Why don’t we have a contest to see who is able to get to the top first?”

Yuan Ji grinned to her before saying coolly, “No, thanks. You can go ahead of me first.”

Ling Feiyang: …

The reason why Yuan Ji had rejected her request to compete was because he had seen her lightless skill before and it was much superior to his.

Ling Feiyang smiled gently, “I can give you a head start over me.”

Yuan Ji had suddenly turned around to her and he was grinning, “Since I am competing to complete the entire trial and you are the same, why don’t we compete all the way to the end then?”

“This sounds good to me.” Ling Feiyang chuckled softly.

“But only from the second trial onward.” Yuan Ji grinned.

Ling Feiyang: …

All of a sudden Yuan Ji had displayed his profound animus. He had suddenly stepped on the steep cliff and was moving up rapidly!

When the dozens of cultivators saw that Yuan Ji had displayed a profound animus that had the equivalent profound strength of a seventh realm level, they were all stunned.

Moreover even without his profound animus display, Yuan Ji had regarded his own lightless skill among the very top.

Therefore the spirited speed that he was making up the steep cliff had also astonished all the onlookers.

And of course the most stunned person was actually Duan Tian who had never expected that this Li Yuan was actually a seventh realm saint.

He was now stammering, “He…he is…actually a saint level cultivator?! I’ve offended a saint…after I’m done with the trial here, I’m going for a hasty breakthrough to preserve my life…”

All of a sudden there was another seventh realm level profound animus that had burst out from Ling Feiyang as she flew up the steep cliffs with her hurried steps.

Once again Duan Tian was shocked, “This Young Master Ling Feiyang is also a seventh realm golden saint?!”

Many of the golden supremacies were actually preparing to show off their skills against one another and were gleefully saying out loud, “Let’s see who can reach the top first.”

But when they saw that two seventh realm experts had suddenly appeared from their midst and had started to ascend up the steep cliff rapidly, they all had a sheepish look.

In front of these two seventh realm experts and their astonishing display of lightness profound art, they were just like little monkeys.

There were many golden celestials that were now sighing heavily, “Even if I am a seventh realm saint, I may not be as good as them in their lightless profound arts.”

“They didn’t even use their hands to grab onto the cliffs and are running along the cliff instead. This is too crazy.”

Chapter 47: Prelude to the Lotus Sword Mansion Trial (1)

Three days later, Yuan Ji and the two saintess sisters had gathered in a desolate valley that was thirty miles away from the border town.

When he had reached the desolate valley, more than five thousand cultivators had already arrived and they were all filling the desolate valley with their loud chatters.

Li Ye was not around as Yuan Ji had asked him to take up his duties as an elder immediately. After giving him a token of the Emperor Hall Sect and a voice transmission slip that recorded a message for Fairy Ye Chengxi, Yuan Ji had bid him farewell.

He had patted Li Ye on his shoulder with a mischievous grin, “Don’t worry. I have a way to make sure Ling Feiyang keeps his distance away from my sisters. But whether you can successfully woo my sisters is another matter entirely.”

When Li Ye heard him, he was delighted immediately and happily went on his way.

“Ling Feiyang won’t like my sisters because he is a maiden. Haha. As for whether you can successfully woo these two saintess sisters, it is none of my business.”

Yuan Ji sighed softly as he quickly grew solemn, “I’ve only said that because you are troubled by the matters of the heart. You must know that we are all celestial cultivators and we ought to cultivate our hearts first or else your life and death tribulations would be a woeful one.”

He had already been through three life and death tribulations so naturally he knew it better than anyone else.

His last tribulation was actually a roller coaster ride and there were a few times that he had thought that he had almost lost it. But it was the hundred year pledge that Xia Jiajia had given him that had steeled his heart and had overcome his regrets for him, enabling him to eventually overcome his Seventh Realm Life and Death Tribulation.

“Brother Li Yuan.” A gentle voice called to him and it was Ling Feiyang.

“Young Master Ling!” Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue called out to him with a soft chuckle.

“Brother Ling.” Yuan Ji greeted him.

Ling Feiyang frowned lightly when she saw Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue, “Li Wu, Li Yue. You are here too? Didn’t I ask you not to come…”

Hua Wuwu chuckled softly, “Don’t worry, we won’t enter the trial and we will just stay put here.”

“That’s right.” Hua Baiyue laughed softly. “We’re here to lend the two of you our spiritual support.”

Ling Feiyang heaved a soft sigh of relief. “That’s great.”

Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue were secretly winking at each other. After they had realized that Ling Feiyang was actually a seventh realm great saint, they had decided to stay put. It was because they were pretending to be only a fifth realm cultivator and they did not want Ling Feiyang to know that they were also at the seventh realm level.

Yuan Ji knew that they were trying to portray themselves as vulnerable maidens and he was secretly smiling, “If Ling Feiyue knows that they are the cold blood killers from the Hundred Flower Divine Flower, I wonder what she will thinks?”

He did not want to expose their deceits to Ling Feiyang because their matters got nothing to do with him. Moreover, he may still need ‘their’ protection.

However there was a slight problem with his plans now. Originally he had needed their protection when he was confronting the Dark Mistress Ling Feiyue. But due to a chance encounter with ‘Ling Feiyang’ in the town here, his two undependable protectors had now fallen in love with him.

“Well, that’s why they are my undependable protectors in the first place.”

He added with another muse, “I’m actually grateful to them for helping me to pass my message to Qianxue. At least we are all technically ‘friends’ for the next four months before we officially become enemies.”

All of a sudden he saw a group of cultivators had approached them. It was actually led by Duan Tian.

“Young Master Ling!” Duan Tian hastily greeted him. “You’re here as well.”

“Supremacy Duan Tian.” Ling Feiyang greeted gently.

“Since Young Master Ling is also here, why don’t you join me instead? My group has three supremacies, three celestials and thirty others. We will definitely have an easier time together. After all, the dangers of the Lotus Sword Mansion are many and there are no desolate beasts that are below the fifth rank inside.”

Then Dian Tian said in a low voice, “We can also offer you some protection against the other cultivators. After all, there are many unorthodox cultivators presented here as well.”

Ling Feiyang returned a gentle smile, “I have already agreed to go with Brother Li Yuan here.”

Duan Tian frowned as he stared at Yuan Ji, “Alright then but if you change your mind, please let me know anytime.”

Yuan Ji grinned sarcastically as he put his hands to his back, “I shall not see you off.”

Dian Tian ignored him completely as he left with his group.

Yuan Ji turned to ask Ling Feiyang, “Are you sure that you do not want to go with him? His group is a formidable one. I really don’t mind entering the trial alone.”

Ling Feiyang shook his head gently, “Actually I don’t really know him that well.”

Yuan Ji was surprised to hear that, “But you are addressing the wrongs for him a while back and you have even confronted me because of him.”

“He had shown me some hospitality when I had first arrived in the town. His War Sovereign Sect is one of the five major influences in these parts.” Ling Feiyang explained nonchalantly.

Yuan Ji found himself staring at her as he pondered with a perplexed look, “Why did she always keep a nonchalant look? If I haven’t seen her mesmerizing chuckles in the mountain wilderness that time, I will find it hard to believe that they are actually the same person.”

He still remembered her mesmerizing chuckles that caused him to have a sinful look at her at that time.

He quickly pulled himself from his thoughts, “Let’s not forget that you have already offended her. If she were to find out who you are, she will not hesitate to kill you in the next instant.”

“And let’s not forget that you are only making use of her to find out where Jiajia is and who she is.”

Ling Feiyang had suddenly interrupted his thoughts as she asked him, “Brother Li Yuan, may I know what are your odds against the sixth rank and seventh rank desolate beasts?”

Yuan Ji heaved a soft sign, “50/50 for a sixth rank desolate beast and 30% chance against a seventh rank desolate beasts.”

A sixth rank desolate beast was equivalent to the strength of a sixth rank supremacy and a seventh rank desolate beast was equivalent to a saint level cultivator.

As for eighth and ninth rank desolate beasts, they were stronger than most saints and even great saints may perish in a one to one fight with them.

Ling Feiyang nodded lightly, “Since there are two of us, a single sixth rank desolate beast may not be so threatening. However a seventh rank desolate beast is another matter entirely. We should try to avoid a fight with the higher rank desolate beasts unless it is absolutely necessary.”

Yuan Ji nodded. It was sheer common sense.

All of a sudden, there were several large commotions from the thousands of cultivators that had gathered.

It was because a group of fierce looking cultivators had suddenly entered into the valley.

“It is the Flying Daggers Divine Sect…”

“Their leader is Saint Mo Xingku. He is an initial seventh realm expert. He had killed countless number of cultivators…”

“Shhh. Not so loud!”

“There are rules against fighting here. Moreover, there are so many righteous orthodox cultivators around here. Do we need to be afraid of these unorthodox cultivators?”

“Look, there is Saint Wu Heng from the Burning Heavens Pavilion. The Burning Heavens Pavilion is one of the seven major orthodox clans. With him around, that Saint Mo Xingku will not dare to be reckless.”

“There are actually two powers from the seven major orthodox clans here today. Over there is the Profound Heaven Sword Manor. The Profound Heaven Sword Manor is among the top three orthodox powers.”

“There are many geniuses in the ranks of the Profound Heaven Sword Manor and their Profound Heaven Sword is ranked as the best sword art in the Desolate Celestial Fraternity.”

“There are no sights of the three unorthodox powers?”

“What? Are you praying for your death wish?”

“Hehe. I’m just wondering if we can get to see the astonishing beauty of the Dark Mistress Ling Feiyue of the Spirit Blue Moon Sect.”

“You’re such a lecher…”

“Ling Feiyue and Xue Qianxue are the two beautiful goddesses of the Desolate Celestial Fraternity before we have the four great beauties.”

“I’ve heard that Fairy Ye Chengxi had recently got married. I wonder who that lucky bastard?”

Yuan Ji: …

“Bastard? He calls me a bastard?” He was frowning lightly.

“And Palace Mistress Xia Jiaqing has gone missing now. So I guess that we only have two eligible goddesses leftover now…”

“No one will be able to court Xue Qianxue successfully. She has devoted herself to the Great Dao of Cultivation. I have heard that she is on a verge of becoming a great saintess.”

“There is a rumor that Xue Qianxue had a real chance of becoming a great saintess if she was able to defeat Ling Feiyue in a secret duel between them a hundred years ago.”

“Alas, it is a pity that Ling Feiyue seemed to have gained an upper hand and she was able to elevate her state of divinity to a higher level after that secret duel. Later on, she had challenged the Lightning Tribulation and had overcome it. Now she is among the top cultivators of the unorthodox fraternity.”

Yuan Ji was startled as he listened to the conversations of the cultivators. He really did not know the secret duel that he had witnessed was so important to both Xue Qianxue and Ling Feiyue. And he had screwed up Xue Qianxue’s chance of becoming a great saintess.

He was beginning to feel a sense of hostilities toward Ling Feiyue as he stole a glance at her.

When Ling Feiyue suddenly saw that Yuan Ji was looking at her, she returned a gentle smile to him while continuing her chitchat with Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue.

When Yuan Ji saw that she had suddenly smiled at him, his hostilities had suddenly vanished from his face.

He was suddenly growling to himself, “Ji Yuan, Ji Yuan. Do not fall for her beauty trick. Have you forgotten that she had played you a hundred years ago? Yes, she had played you a hundred years ago with Xia Jiajia. But I can feel that Xia Jiajia is sincere toward me. I had only given her a worthless precious sword and in return, she had given me an earth grade divine sword.”

All of a sudden he had a scary thought. What if Xia Jiajia was being held against her will and was forced to help Ling Feiyue?

“I can’t trust Ling Feiyue completely. It is because I know that she is only telling me a half-truth. Obviously she knows who Xia Jiajia is but she just refuses to tell me. Of course she doesn’t want anyone to know what had happened a hundred year ago. She had used guile to win the duel with Xue Qianxue.”

All of a sudden a group of protégés from the Profound Heaven Sword Manor had descended upon him as they surrounded him.

“You there! Do you still remember us?” A golden celestial was staring coldly at him.

Yuan Ji blinked his eyes as he frowned lightly, “Do I even know you at all? I don’t think that we have even met before…”

The golden celestial interrupted him coldly, “You certainly have a short memory. Aren’t you so arrogant at the Holy Maidens Peaks a month ago? You’re the only person that Sacred Maiden Xue Qianxue is willing to see. That is so weird. After you had seen her, she had suddenly announced that she is entering into a cultivation retreat. It is really such a coincidence, don’t you think so?”

This golden celestial was actually Third Young Master Jian Menghao. That day when he had heard that Xue Qianxue was only willing to see him, he was one of those that had jumped off the mountain cliff in great despair.

But of course, he was not killed by the great fall and had survived. After all, those that had jumped off the mountain cliffs were all golden celestials and their golden bodies were able to take a great deal of punishments. It was their way of venting their frustrations and their broken hearts.

“I’m Third Young Master Jian Menghao. Just you wait! I will get you inside the trial. Don’t let me catch you.” With that he had coldly walked off with his group.

Yuan Ji was frowning lightly after Jian Menghao had left.

All of a sudden he had noticed that Ling Feiyue was suddenly staring coldly at him and he got a startled fright.

She must have overheard their earlier conversations that he had gone to see Xue Qianxue and Ling Feiyue had a personal feud with Xue Qianxue.

Before the trial had started, he had already offended Jian Menghao and Ling Feiyue!

All of a sudden the groups that were from the Burning Heavens Pavilion and Flying Dagger Divine Sect were all pointing at him and were saying, “Yes, we are sure. He is the one that has sheltered Li Ye.”

Yuan Ji suddenly had a sheepish look as he cursed silently, “Li Ye, why didn’t you tell me that you have also offended the Burning Heavens Pavilion and the Flying Dagger Divine Sect at the same time too?”

Now he had four groups of enemies to deal with.

It was a lucky thing that the two sister saintesses were still on his side.

No, better make it five groups of enemies. They are so undependable and are obviously siding with Ling Feiyue…

All of a sudden there were shouts from the cultivators in front of them, “The trials are opening now…”

Chapter 46: Ling Feiyue

Yuan Ji, Ling Feiyang, Hua Wuwu, Hua Baiyue and Li Ye were now sitting in a personal room at a tavern.

Ling Feiyang was now looking curiously at Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue, “They are really your sisters?”

Yuan Ji laughed awkwardly, “Indeed they are. They are Li Wu and Li Yue.”

He was secretly frowning.

It was because when Hua Baiyue and Hua Wuwu had overheard that Ling Feiyang was inviting Yuan Ji for a drink, they were all suddenly friendly toward Yuan Ji again.

Hua Wuwu laughed, “Indeed we are siblings. I hope that Young Master Ling does not mind the tease.”

“We are actually afraid just now and that is why we have lied to you.” Hua Baiyue giggled softly. “Here is a toast for you as our sincere apologies.”

Yuan Ji rolled his eyes. It was obvious that these two lovely saintesses were interested in Ling Feiyang than anything else. Luckily he was not envious because he knew that Ling Feiyang was actually a maiden.

But for Li Ye, he had an ugly expression because Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue were toasting and talking to Ling Feiyang all this while; they did not even offer him a single toast or a single word.

“Here, one more toast from us!” Hua Wuwu laughed as she cuddled nearer and nearer to Ling Feiyang.

While the two saintesses were toasting to Ling Feiyang, Yuan Ji was quietly observing Ling Feiyang. She was exactly like a hundred years ago, taking only a gentle sip of the wine cup as she drinks each time.

Even Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue were drinking faster than her.

He just could not understand what kind of a person was this Dark Mistress Ling Feiyue?

All of a sudden he had noticed that Ling Feiyang seemed to be looking at him more often than the others.

Ling Feiyang quickly averted her eyes when she noticed that Yuan Ji was also looking at her.

She quickly smiled and said gently to everyone, “Let me offer a toast to everyone here. This toast is also to apologize to all of you earlier.”

“Are you all from the same celestial clan? May I know what your celestial clan of origin is?” She added curiously.

Yuan Ji quickly said with a weak smile, “We are unable to disclose to you for the time being. I hope that Young Master Ling will pardon us for not sharing with you.”

Ling Feiyang returned a gentle smile, “Don’t worry, I do not mind at all. I perfectly understand if you do not want to share. Everyone has their difficulties and secrets. I’m not the one type that likes to look into others’ secrets.”

Yuan Ji rolled his eyes as he cursed silently, “Are you sure you don’t like to look into others’ secrets? Have you forgotten what you have asked me to do a hundred years ago?

All of a sudden he noticed that she was secretly looking at him.

“Why did she keep looking into my direction? Has she discovered my identity?”

“This shouldn’t be. Xue Qianxue had discovered my identity because I had dropped into her bathtub in the past and I had given her such a ‘good’ impression of myself. But for Ling Feiyue, I don’t think she recognizes me or else she won’t invite me for a drink.”

Ling Feiyue had also noticed that Yuan Ji was constantly looking at her and there was a slight flush on her cheeks…

“Is there anything on my face?” she asked Yuan Ji.

Yuan JI was silently startled by her.

“Why is she aiming me? Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue are both staring at her all this while and she didn’t even say a single word.”

But he quickly smiled and said, “I seem to have seen you before.”

“One hundred years ago in a small town. You are with a most beautiful maiden. The two of you are such a beautiful couple and that is why I can still remember you. I still can’t forget her peerless look till to this day. Is she your consort?”

There were two burning looks of envious that came from Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue as they listened in to Yuan Ji.

Ling Feiyang heaved a soft sigh, “She is indeed a most alluring maiden but unfortunately she isn’t my consort nor is she my partner. As a matter of fact, I’ve never seen her after that day.”

All of a sudden the smiles had returned to Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue as they giggled, “Forget about her! She doesn’t know what is good for her!”

Yuan Ji pretended to sigh with pity, “Alas! What a pity! Pardon me for asking. But what is her name? If I have an opportunity, I will like to seek her out.”

All of a sudden Ling Feiyang returned him an annoyed look before she said gently, “I forget.”

Yuan Ji: …

“It is impossible for her to forget. She just did not want to tell me. Never mind, I had already known that she is Xia Jiajia.”

Ling Feiyang had suddenly interrupted his thoughts as she asked, “Are you here for the trial as well?”

Yuan Li asked curiously, “There is a trial in this part?”

Ling Feiyang explained, “Every thirty years, the forbidden gates of the Lotus Sword Mansion will be opened to the cultivators. I am actually here for the trial.”

Yuan Li was startled. In the past, he had always missed the trials for the Lotus Sword Mansion one way or another. The trials of the Lotus Sword Mansion were extremely dangerous but it was also a place for cultivators to obtain their lucky occurrences and to find profound treasures.

And of course an opportunity for the orthodox and unorthodox cultivators to battle each other.

He quickly replied, “I have heard of the Lotus Sword Mansion’s Trials as well but I’ve no real opportunity to try it. I guess that this time I’m lucky to be here on time.”

“But Young Master Ling, you’re really interested to take the trials?” He asked curiously. It was because with Ling Feiyue’s background, she had actually no lack of profound treasures and cultivation treasures. Unless of course, she was greedy for more.

“I mean, do you really need to take the risk? It is because you look like you’re well-to-do.” He quickly added.

Ling Feiyang nodded lightly, “I actually hope to obtain a powerful spirit entity to cultivate for my soul sea. So far, I have been quite unlucky. Therefore I’m thinking of entering the Lotus Sword Mansion for a lucky occurrence.”

Yuan Li smiled bitterly, “I’ve actually no luck in obtaining a spirit entity as well.”

When a cultivator reached the sixth realm golden supremacy level which was also called the spirit level, they would be able to fuse the spirit cores of the high ranking desolate beasts that they had slain as their spirit entity.

There were several advantages for having a spirit entity. Firstly, a spirit entity would enhance the profound strength of the cultivator, giving an advantage over the same realm level cultivator that did not possess one.

Secondly depending on the spirit cores of the desolate beasts that were captured, it may affect the flow of profound energies, spirit force absorption, profound power, profound aura etc. to some extend.

However only a sixth rank and higher desolate beast may drop a spirit core. Even so, the chance for an intact spirit core to form was only a measly 1%. Therefore it was not easy to obtain the spirit core of a high ranking desolate beast.

The Lotus Sword Mansion’s Trials were renowned for having a higher rate for the spirit cores to form which was estimated to be around 5% chance.  Although this was still quite low but it was still many times higher than venturing into the unknown desolate mists that were at the bottom of the mountains to seek a spirit core.

Ling Feiyang smiled, “If Brother Li Yuan does not mind at all, we can take the trial together.”

Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue said at the same time, “We’re going as well!”

Ling Feiyang was startled as she said gently to them, “This isn’t a good idea. Although you are fifth realm golden celestials, it is still going to be a difficult trial.”

Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue said at the same time, “We’re not afraid.”

Hua Baiyue chuckled, “If Young Master Ling isn’t afraid, why we should be afraid?”

Ling Feiyang heaved a soft sigh before she said, “Actually, I am sorry for not telling everyone earlier. I am actually a seventh realm saint.”

Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue were gasping softly but they were soon smiling with delight.

Li Ye was stunned, “What?! You are a golden saint?!”

Yuan Ji pretended to be surprised. After all he had already known that she was a middle seventh realm saintess.

“I’ve the intention to complete the entire trials for the Lotus Sword Mansion and to leave my name behind. Therefore I hope the two maidens understand the risks and stay put.” Ling Feiyang explained with great gentleness to the two sisters.

Hua Wuwu chuckled softly, “We’re not afraid. Which tier of the seventh realm are you at now?”

Yuan Ji thought, “She is in the middle seventh realm level but she will probably lie to them that she is at the initial seventh realm level.”

“I don’t wish to lie to the two maidens. I’m a Great Saint.”

When she had said that, Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue were so startled that they were gasping. A Great Saint was at the upper seventh realm sacred saint level.

Only 1 out of 100 saints can ever succeed into becoming a great saint. It was because before they could become a great saint, they had to first overcome the lightning tribulation first.

As for Yuan Ji and Li Ye, they were so startled that they nearly fell backward from their chairs.

Yuan Ji was completely stunned. This was not possible?! How did she become a great saintess so quickly?!

Ling Feiyang said quietly as she looked at Yuan Ji, “Brother Li Yuan, if I am not wrong in my guess, you are actually a seventh realm expert. From our earlier exchanges, I can gauge that much. Therefore there is no need to hide it from me anymore.”

Li Ye stared at Yuan Ji with astonishment, “You…are…also a seventh realm saint?!”

Yuan Ji smiled bitterly, “So you are only pretending to lose to me…Great Saint…”

The gap between an initial seventh realm saint and an upper seventh realm great saint was vast. There was almost a 60% profound strength differences and the recovery rate of a great saint was also two notches better.

“I’ve better not let her know that I’m Ji Yuan or I will be dead. After a hundred years, I’m still nowhere closer to her attainment level.”

He estimated that his odds of winning a great saintess were only around 5% chance.

Forget about humiliating her, he would be the one getting humiliated instead.

But at least when he saw that the adorable look that Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue were displaying in front of Ling Feiyue, he was secretly gloating. It was because they did not know that Ling Feiyang was actually Ling Feiyue and that ‘he’ was actually a maiden. He was now imagining the disappointing looks of their faces when they had eventually found out about the truth.

Li Ye had a heartbroken look as he stared blankly at Ling Feiyang and the two lovely maidens. Great Saint! How was he going to catch up with this Ling Feiyang and to win the hearts of these two lovely maidens?

Chapter 45: The Real Arrogant Cultivator (3)

Yuan Ji and Ling Feiyang were immediately entangled against each other as they displayed their attacking strokes and their profound auras could be seen bursting to and fro rapidly.

When Yuan Ji saw that Ling Feiyang had really limited her raw profound strength to the peaked fifth realm level to match against his peaked fifth realm profound strength, he was delighted.

It was because they were almost evenly matched now.

He was not about to give up an opportunity to humiliate her in a fight. This was a payback time for her trickery a hundred years ago.

“I’m sure that you are unable to use any of your unorthodox profound arts or you will risk exposing your true identity in public. But I’m different. All my sword arts and techniques are orthodox in origin. Therefore I can freely use my profound skills but you are different.”

They had quickly exchanged more than a hundred swift strokes in a few blinks of an eye to test each other out and Yuan Ji was soon growling; it was because he was expecting his divine sword to slice off her fan but it did not happened.

When high level cultivators fight, their profound strength would create an invisible animus to the weapons that they were channeling forth for their attacks. This invisible animus also had the added effect of strengthening the weapons against damaging blows and enhancing the profound power that were displayed at the same time.

However Ling Feiyang did not use his fan to take the sharp edge of his sword directly but had used one additional stroke to parry off his thrusts and slashes from the unsharpened surface.

To the eyes of the outsiders, it was obvious that Yuan Ji clearly had the advantage as Ling Feiyang was using two strokes for every single stroke that he had used.

But to Yuan Ji, he knew that he did not have a big advantage because Ling Feiyang had a higher recovery than him. Therefore she was not going to exhaust her profound strength or vital breath any time soon.

When top cultivators fight with each other, they were extremely mindful of their vital breath cycle. This vital breath cycle was actually the vital profound energies that were drawn from their soul sea at every breath cycle at which they must distribute carefully into maintaining their profound aura, profound strength and breathing at the same time in perfect harmony.

If they used too much of their profound strength (for attacks, speed, evading etc.) or profound aura (for defense, absorbing blows, lightless skill etc.), their breathing would be thrown in disharmony if they used up their vital breath too fast.

And when breathing was affected, their vital profound energies in their soul sea would be consumed very quickly. The same stroke would then also consumed more of their profound strength when their vital breath cycle was in disharmony.

Usually the golden celestial cultivators had a longer vital breath cycle than the lowly realm cultivators, often ten times or and more. This was to say that while a normal cultivator may need to breathe every 3s to 5s, the golden celestials only need to breathe every 30s or longer depending on their internal profound arts.

In terms of energy level and the vital breath cycle of a golden celestial alone, any cultivator that was below the fourth realm level would find it hard to defeat a golden celestial on a one to one duel.

And if the golden celestials were to run away, they could run ten times or longer than any non-golden celestials without even getting tired.

Therefore attacking speeds were measured in the blink of an eye rather than breathing time. It was because the more powerful their cultivation and internal profound arts were, the better that they could control their heartbeats and vital breath cycle.

It was common for many of the powerful cultivators to breathe only once every ten minutes and the more powerful they were, the longer that they could hold on to their vital breath without losing it. It was because to lose their vital breath would mean that they would end up losing their precious profound energies in their soul sea.

Therefore unlike normal cultivators, the golden celestials could often go on days without sleep and even perform physically taxing activities without getting tired because of their longer vital breath cycle.

Yuan Ji knew that their fights would take a long time to finish at this rate. They could even fight for three days and three nights without getting tired. It was because the two of them were actually saint level cheaters. That would be as good as exposing their fake cultivation level if they really fought for this long.

Therefore Yuan Ji had decided that the warm up strokes were now coming to an end.

There was a gentle smile on Ling Feiyang as well. She could tell that Yuan Ji was now increasing his profound strength to the offensive and he was about to get serious.

“Sword Energy Wave!” All of a sudden Yuan Ji had swung his sword from a downward cut to a forward stance that immediately exploded a wave of sword energies that ripped through the ground like a wave of soaring dragon toward Ling Feiyang.

The onlookers were all startled by this high level sword energy technique as it sped toward Ling Feiyang.

“This is…a sword energy wave!”

“This is a profound sword energies technique…”

“This Li Yuan is actually a sword energy practitioner?”

“Sword energies combined with a divine sword is extremely lethal to block…”

“Even if Young Master Ling can block off this attack, he may get injured…”

“This Li Yuan is such a badass…”

“He is such a bully!” Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue were shouting at the same time.

Sword energies were a special profound technique that could only be used by less than 3% of the fourth realm cultivators and above. In order to display sword energies techniques, the cultivator must first attain to the fourth realm immortal celestial level first which was also called the energy level.

Knowing how to use sword energies techniques had nothing to do with talents or cultivation realm level. It had to do more with the special constitution of the practitioner and hence cultivators that could use sword energies were also known as sword energies practitioners. The main reason why Yuan Ji had chosen Shangguan Yan and Fairy Ye Chengxi to be his core protégés were because they all had the special constitution to realize the sword energies techniques.

Unlike profound power which was the resultant of profound strength, sword energies were directly formed from the profound energies of the cultivator. Usually sword energies were much weaker than profound power at the start because sword energies lose power over a distance quickly. But as the internal profound strength of the sword energies practitioner improves, the lethal power of the sword energies will also improve.

Most sword energies practitioners were actually weaker than pure profound power practitioners as sword energies techniques were too demanding to perfect. There were many powerful cultivators that were gifted with the constitution to use sword energies but they had limited it to the basic sword energies fingers so that they could focus on their profound power instead.

It was because transferring the profound energies to an intermediate like a sword would mean that they would lose 70% of their profound energies strength. The better grade their weapons, the better was the profound energies retention.

As for profound power practitioners, the loss of their profound energies to a weapon was only 30% profound power loss.

But sword energies have its distinct advantage as it can home onto the target because sword energies are attracted to the profound energies signature of its target, making it very hard to miss. Moreover sword energies were more effective against the formidable defenses of the profound aura of the cultivators if it was not blocked or evaded.

Ling Feiyang gasped softly when she saw the incoming sword energy wave. Because Yuan Ji had unleashed it all of a sudden at point blank, she could not evade it in a timely manner.

Therefore she imbued all her profound strength into her fan as profound power to implode upon the sword energies, dissipating it but not before she was forced to take two steps to the back.

Yuan Ji was perplexed as he thought, “She could have used her profound strength to divert the course of my sword energy wave. But instead she has decided to take it in the face directly. Is she stupid or what? Is she trying to show off her superior profound strength? But she had failed because my attack has forced her to take two steps back. Therefore I have the superior profound strength.”

Sword energies were extremely lethal and could even penetrate through profound aura defenses of most cultivators.

Ling Feiyang had channeled all her profound strength into profound power to her fan to implode his attack.

“Is this your most powerful attack?” Ling Feiyang questioned him as she threw away her broken fan before she took out another undamaged fan. “This is just so and so only. If you have an ordinary precious sword, you may not be able to gain an advantage over me.”

Yuan Ji was grinning, “It is not all yet.”

He was not lying. Even since he had regained his profound strength to the seventh realm level, he was dying to try his Major Heavens Sword which was the secret sword art of the Orthodox Sword Sect.

His Major Heavens Sword was an advanced sword energy art that contained several epitome sword energy techniques. Altogether, the Major Heavens Sword had a total of nine levels. The last three levels contained all the epitome sword energy techniques.

He was previously on the 6th level. But when he had attained as a saint, he was now able to use the 7th level.

Sword energies attacks were actually based on the recovery rate rather than profound strength of the practitioner. It was because recovery rates affect the how well the sword energy was being channeled.

Yuan Ji was grinning to himself, “Ling Feiyue, Ling Feiyue. The result of faking your profound strength will only result in your public humiliation!”

Major Heavens 7th Sword, Multiple Sword Waves.

All of a sudden Yuan Ji had channeled all his profound strength into unleashing three waves of sword energy waves that sped rapidly toward Ling Feiyue.

The tiles on the ground that the three sword energy waves had sped through were all completely destroyed.

Ling Feiyue was startled as she quickly imploded one sword energy wave with her fan and she used her body to tank the other two sword energy waves with her profound aura.

The sword energy waves had struck her with a thunderous impact, causing her to cough out a bout of golden blood and sending her to fly seven steps backward.

Ling Feiyang and the onlookers were quite startled that Yuan Ji was actually this powerful.

“Young Master Ling is injured?”

“Is he alright?”

“I hope that he is not seriously injured…”

“I am still betting my everything on Young Master Ling…”

Ling Feiyang threw away her broken fan before she had taken another fan out as she heaved a soft sign before she said to Yuan Ji. “If I’ve decided to concede, will you let these two maidens go?”

Yuan Ji was actually thinking how many fans that she had got when she had suddenly asked him the question.

He replied coolly, “These two maidens can naturally go as they pleased. I won’t stop them from leaving.”

Ling Feiyang nodded lightly before she raised her hands to bow respectfully, “I’ve lost. You’re the superior fighter. Therefore we can only leave.”

There was no hatred or icy look on her countenance. There was only a nonchalant look.

She turned to apologize to Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue, “I’m sorry that today I’m unable to win back your honor. I’m truly sorry.”

Hua Wuwu looked pitifully at Ling Feiyang, “It’s alright. You’ve already done your very best.”

“That’s right.” Hua Baiyue nodded almost tearfully. “He is a bully and he has an unfair advantage with a divine sword. Moreover, he is also a high level sword energy practitioner. He doesn’t even dare to engage in a fair fight with you.”

Ling Feiyang smiled weakly, “I’m truly sorry.”

After she had said that, she had turned to walk away.

Yuan Ji was slightly startled. It was because he did not expect that the duel would end so fast. It was obvious to him that Ling Feiyang still have plenty of fights left in her eyes and he had not humiliated her enough.

He could not understand why she had conceded so fast and so early?

Li Ye was also startled, “We’ve won?”

All the onlookers were dumbfounded as well.

Although Yuan Ji’s sword energy techniques were formidable but they could all see that Ling Feiyang was able to tank his attack. As long as Ling Feiyang could hold onto her defenses, Yuan Ji was bounded to exhaust his profound strength sooner or later and she could counter-attack.

Moreover the weakness of a sword energy practitioner was obvious; their defensive profound auras were much weaker as they had to channel all their profound strength to the offensive. It did not seem to the onlookers that Ling Feiyang had lost his advantage yet.

All of a sudden Yuan Ji shouted, “Young Master Ling, please wait!”

Ling Feiyang turned around and asked curiously, “Yes? You have additional demands?”

Yuan Ji sighed softly, “You have not lost. I’ve lost. Therefore please allow me to apologize to everyone.”

When he had said that, he gave a respectful bow before he had turned around to walk away.

Everyone: ???

Ling Feiyang: ???

The reason why Yuan Ji had suddenly conceded was because he had realized that Ling Feiyang was tanking all his sword energies because she did not want the dangerous sword energies to hurt the onlookers.

And she had conceded early because she did not want any of the onlookers to be hurt during their duel.

He had been too eager to win Ling Feiyang that he had overlooked his martial honor.

He was left muttering to himself, “How can an unorthodox be more orthodox than a true orthodox like me? Is she really the same Ling Feiyang as a hundred years ago?”

The Ling Feiyang that he had recalled a hundred years ago had used trickery to defeat Sacred Maiden Xue Qianxue during their duel. Therefore he did not have a good impression of her.

The only good impression that he had of her were her enchanting enticing smiles that were so soul-snatching that he had a hard on while looking at her.

“Wait!” This time it was Ling Feiyang who had called out to him.

Yuan Ji turned around to look curiously at her, “Yes? You have additional demands to make?”

Ling Feiyang returned a gentle smile, “If this hero does not mind, I will like to invite you for a drink?”

Yuan Ji was startled by her invitation but he quickly said, “I don’t mind at all as long as someone else is paying the tabs.”

Just as he was about to sigh secretly how he should approach Ling Feiyang to ask her about Xia Jiajia, she had actually invited him to a drink.

This was a good opportunity that he could not waste!

Chapter 44: The Real Arrogant Cultivator (2)

Li Ye was stunned that Yuan Ji’s two sisters had suddenly abandoned them.

Duan Tian displayed a proud grin as he stared fiercely at Yuan Ji, “You didn’t expect me to be back so soon, didn’t you?”

Then he said humbly as he stole a glance at Ling Feiyang, “This is Young Master Ling Feiyang, If you’re wise enough, apologize to us immediately and we will be gracious enough to let you off.”

Ling Feiyang nodded and asked him, “What is his name?”

Yuan Ji growled, “I am right in front of you. You don’t have to ask him. I am Li Yuan!”

But Ling Feiyang ignored him as ‘he’ looked in the direction of Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue and asked with great gentleness, “Are the two maidens alright? Did he touch or offend you in any way?”

Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue had run to his side. As they cuddled together, they replied woefully. “He was stroking our legs earlier. He is really a beast of a man. Please address our injustice for us!”

Yuan Ji was laughing in his heart. “I’m only a supposedly fifth realm cultivator. How on earth will I be able to bully two golden celestials, assuming that she believes that the two of you are really fifth realm cultivators. Haha. I’m sure Ling Feiyue isn’t so stupid to believe these two vixens…”

“I believe you.” Ling Feiyang replied gently to the two maidens.

Yuan Ji: …

Yuan Ji: …

Yuan Ji: …

“She actually believes these two vixens?!” He was in disbelief.

Ling Feiyang said with great gentleness to the two maidens as ‘he’ comforted them, “Since this Li Yuan can defeat even a great supremacy like Duan Tian here, he must be someone with an extraordinary background or has a powerful profound art. Rest assures that I will address your injustice for you.”

Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue were almost swept off from their feet from his encouraging words and they were looking at him with great interest now.

Li Ye had secretly whispered to Yuan Ji, “Palace Master Yuan, what is going on here? Aren’t they your two sisters?”

Yuan Ji whispered back with a straight face, “Actually this is our stratagem. When things go south, my two sisters will be able to deliver a strike from the back to aid us. In this way, we are on undefeated ground.”

Li Ye whispered with a startled look, “Delivering a strike to the back isn’t an honorable thing, am I right?”

Yuan Ji continued to put on a righteous straight face, “Although it isn’t entirely honorable but their strikes won’t be a lethal one and will be used to aid us to escape once things go south. Sometimes even a hero has to accept humiliation in this manner. At most when we’re stronger, we will challenge this Ling Feiyang again in another honor duel.”

“I get it now!” Li Ye gasped. “But we are risking Yuan Wu and Yuan Yue to save our own skins. Alas. They’re really courageous heroines. I am really impressed by them.”

Yuan Ji: …

He replied weakly, “Yes, me too…” But he was quickly cursing them silently. “My foot!”

Ling Feiyang continued to say to the two lovely young maidens, “I will help you to break both his dirty hands today to appease you.”

The steward that was nearest to Ling Feiyang was grinning as he chipped in, “Young Master Ling. Please pardon me for saying so. Earlier, I even saw that this Li Yuan was lecherously looking under their skirts.”

Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue were both gasping all of a sudden as they began to fluster before turning their icy stares at Yuan Ji.

Yuan Ji was startled as he said silently, “I have no feuds with this steward. Why did he accuse me for doing something that I did not do?! Is this a plot?”

All of a sudden many of the crowd was all saying at the same time;

“Yes, we saw him looking under their skirts earlier…”

“He is really a lecherous cultivator…”

“We didn’t dare to say a word earlier because he is a Great Celestial and even his friend is also a Great Celestial…”

“Now that Young Master Ling is here, we can now speak our minds freely…”

Yuan Ji rubbed his chin when he noticed that even Li Ye was looking at him with great suspicion now. He weakly muttered to himself, “It is only for just a few blinks of an eye. Does it even count? These people are too much…”

Li Ye whispered to him, “Palace Master Yuan…did you…”

Yuan Ji whispered back, “You actually believe them and not me? Have you forgotten that they are my sisters? Why would I be peeping at my own sisters? Moreover haven’t you heard that I’ve married the Goddess Fairy Ye Chengxi?”

Li Ye muttered, “True, true.” But he did not dare to say out his inner thoughts. “Some people have that fetish.” Then he added silently, “There are no limits to a lecher’s heart.”

Ling Feiyang replied coolly to the crowd, “Then I shall blind his eyes.”

Everyone was clapping and shouting, “Good! Good! Good!”

Yuan Ji was growling silently, “Why is that they are treating us like arrogant great celestials instead of that Duan Tian? I didn’t even have the chance to be an arrogant great celestial for more than a hundred years now.”

Ling Feiyang had now turned to him to say quietly, “Li Yuan, why don’t we have a little spar outside the teahouse?”

Yuan Ji hummed coldly, “Do you think that I will be afraid of a beardless fellow like you? Why don’t you grow your beard to match mine before you speak the bold words?”

Ling Feiyang raised ‘his’ beautiful eyelid to look at him, “You do not seem to have a beard either!”

Yuan Ji was startled as he smiled awkwardly to himself, “I’ve forgotten about this part. There goes my famous battle quote now.”

But he laughed it off awkwardly before he jumped off from the teahouse to the street below.

He was swiftly followed by Ling Feiyang and the rest.

They were all high level cultivators here and jumping off from the third storey of the teahouse was actually a small feat that was not worth mentioning.

But it soon garnered attention from the crowd that was in the streets.

“It is Young Master Ling!”

“Young Master Ling is teaching another arrogant great celestial a lesson. Let’s go and take a look!”

“It is really Young Master Ling!”

“He is so dashing…”

“The other guy is not bad looking too. He is actually quite beautiful looking but he pales in comparison with the noble and gentle air of Young Master Ling.”

“Young Master Ling has never lost a fight before. His opponent is going to suffer a humiliating defeat today!”

Yuan Ji was groaning secretly, “When did I ever become an arrogant great celestial? This Ling Feiyue is from the unorthodox sect and I’m from the orthodox sect. I am supposed to be a good guy…”

All of a sudden he had a sudden thought, “If I remembered correctly, she claims to be a fifth realm golden celestial from the Flying Swords Divine Sect in the past. If that is so, then she won’t be displaying her seventh realm profound strength in the open. It is because she did not want anyone to know that she is only using the Flying Sword Divine Sect as her proxy identity to roam freely in the orthodox fraternity. Therefore, I won’t really lose to her.”

So he raised his voice to say, “Li Yuan, upper tier fifth realm golden celestial here. Please give me your instructions!”

Ling Feiyang returned a light nod as he said gently, “Ling Feiyang, upper tier fifth realm golden celestial from the Flying Sword Divine Sect. Please give me your instructions.”

Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue were gasping softly as they looked anxiously at Ling Feiyang, “Fifth realm…please be careful.”

Yuan Ji was really unhappy to see that they were more concern about Ling Feiyang than him. He began to mutter silently. “If I am killed then I shall see how your Divine Palace Master is going to punish the two of you. Maybe I will just let Ling Feiyue kills me just to see your regretful expressions.”

But he was soon sighing, “They are actually my foes from the Hundred Flower Divine Palace. Why am I forming an emotional attachment with them? They can do whatever they want and it is actually none of my business.”

Li Ye shouted to Yuan Ji, “Brother Li Yuan, be careful!”

Yuan Ji rolled his eyes and had a sheepish look. “At least I’ve got one concern supporter here. But he is a man and not a maiden…”

Ling Feiyang said gently, “My weapon will be my fan here. What about yours?”

Yuan Ji replied as he took out his divine sword from his spatial ring, “I will use a sword.”

When he had taken out an earth-grade divine sword, all the onlookers were startled and the more powerful cultivators with the more acute divine senses were all gasping, “It is an earth-step divine sword! He actually has such a formidable weapon…”

The hearts of the maidens in the streets immediately sunk when they saw that Yuan Ji had an earth-step divine sword and they were fearful for Young Master Ling Feiyang.

Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue were staring coldly at Yuan Ji and were saying unhappily, “Cheater! Bully! Shameless!”

Yuan Ji was grinning at everyone’s miseries, especially the hearts of all the maidens in the street. He did not care for their feelings because his only objective was to defeat ‘Ling Feiyang’.

“What?” he grinned, “Did we have an agreement beforehand that divine weapons are not allowed?”

He had a look of awesomeness as he said coolly, “My supporters to my back and Young Master Ling’s supporters to his back.”

Then he added with a wryly smile, “I can even defeat Duan Tian who is an upper sixth realm golden supremacy. Do I even need to fear from a mere fifth realm cultivator?”

Duan Tian began to shout angrily, “That is only because I was too careless and I allow you to strike first. I didn’t think that you will be so despicable to use your full strength at the very start.”

Yuan Ji hummed coldly, “Does it matter? Or do you want to duel with me again?”

As he rebuked Duan Tian, he had suddenly noticed that the supporters on his back were mostly the older ladies who were envious of the young maidens that were crowding in support for Ling Feiyang and there was not even a single pretty face.

He was completely speechless.

In the past when he had his beautiful beard, all the beautiful young maidens were all on his side.

He began to growl silently, “I must get back my manly beautiful beard as soon as possible. This is so demoralizing.”

Ling Feiyang said to him, “I don’t mind that you have a divine sword. We can continue our duel now?”

Yuan Ji nodded as he immediately displayed a defensive sword stance. “This Ling Feiyue is really too sure of herself. She has no idea that I’m a saint as well. Today is the day that I will humiliate her in front of everyone.”

Chapter 240: Return to Heavens Ridge Villa

When Fan Yuqing and Lu Qingyun had once again stepped into the Heavens Ridge Villa, they were immediately greeted warmly by all the grand elders, elders and protégés of the Heavenly Ridge Villa.

Ouyang Xue, Shi Guanyin, Yun Xing, Kong Guxin, Mu Han and Wang Ming who were the six grand elders all had a pleasant surprise. It was because they had all thought that their acting sect leader and senior brother would never come back again.

Ouyang Xue and Yin Shisi shyly greeted Lu Qingyun, “Senior brother! You’re really back!”

Lu Qingyun laughed, “That’s right. We’re back.”

Everyone could see that Lu Qingyun was now holding onto the hands of Qin Keqin but none of them were actually surprised to see that.

After all, there was a rumor that they were together and almost all the leadership of the Heavens Ridge Villa had already known about this for a long time, no thanks to the gossips that were spread by Mu Han.

Lu Qingyun and Fan Yuqing were not the only couple that was holding hands; they had learnt that Mu Han and Yun Xing were also a couple now.

Yun Xing chuckled, “I’ve only agreed to partner him to save him the trouble of coming to my martial hall to pick a fight with me. Now I can finally have some peace. Now I always win in the quarrel because if I tell him to turn right, he will now turn right. If I tell him to turn left, he will always turn left. No arguing!”

Mu Han returned a weak smile, “I guess that I am the stupid one.”

Ouyang Xue laughed softly, “But you are so smart to net my master.”

Mu Han laughed, “I am the winner at night…”

All of a sudden Yun Xing had given him a kick, “Don’t talk rubbish in front of the others. This is so embarrassing.”

Everyone was laughing jovially.

Shi Guanyin smiled sweetly, “Alas, our sect leader and senior brother are just back in time for my wedding.”

Lu Qingyun and Fan Yuqing were startled, “You’re getting married?!”

Lu Qingyun asked, “Who is the lucky fellow?”

All the other grand elders answered for Shi Guanyin with a laugh, “It is her long time secret sweetheart Elder Ling Feijian from the Flying Armament Sect.”

Shi Guanyin chuckled, “Not so loud. You’re all making me feel so awkward.”

Then she turned to Fan Yuqing and asked, “Sect Leader Qin, so when are you going to get marry to senior brother?”

Fan Yuqing chuckled softly, “Mmm, he can continue to dream on.”

Lu Qingyun: …

Fan Yuqing returned a shy look at everyone before saying, “I’m thinking of passing the leadership of the Heavens Ridge Villa to my Yun’Er. As for Qin Keqin, I think that it is too inappropriate for me to use anymore if I want to marry him.”

“Therefore…” She took a shy look at Lu Qingyun before looking at everyone again. “Therefore, I will use a new name. What do you say?”

Shi Guanyin laughed, “Why don’t you use the name of the Great Saintess Fan Yuqing? We’ve all known your secret identity now.”

Mu Han laughed jovially, “That is right.”

Fan Yuqing smiled, “It is too renowned for my liking.”

Yun Xing smiled, “You’re such a beautiful goddess. Everyone in the Heavens Ridge Villa and New Empyrean City knows that you’re Qin Keqin. Even if you change your name many times, you can’t change your beautiful face.”

Kong Guxin stroked his beard with a wry smile, “That is so true.”

Fan Yuqing smiled bitterly, “Any better suggestions?”

Ouyang Xue smiled, “Why don’t you just disowned senior brother as your personal protégé?”

Yin Shisi smiled, “We can have senior brother to join the Clear Sky Pavilion first and then he will rejoin the Heavens Ridge Villa because he is seeing our sect leader.”

Shi Guanyin chuckled, “Or joins the Flying Armament Sect?”

Wang Ming laughed, “In this way, our Sect Leader Qin is still our sect leader. The only change will be that our senior brother will no longer be our senior brother but he will be a husband to our sect leader.”

Ouyang Xue smiled shyly, “When he rejoins the sect, he can be appointed as our acting sect leader while Sect Leader Qin can be appointed as our permanent sect leader.”

Fan Yuqing rolled her eyes, “But I don’t want to be a sect leader…” It was because she did not want to be struck in running the affairs of a sect and it would be ‘un’fun for her. Her heart belonged to the Nine Celestial Fraternity and there were still many places that she had not visited.

Shi Guanyin laughed as she pointed out, “You can always let your acting sect leader to be in charge. And if the two of you decides to go away for a while, we do not mind at all.”

Fan Yuqing rolled her eyes as she chuckled, “You mean I can delegate all my duties?”

All the grand elders and Yin Shisi were nodding with a big smile on their countenances.

They knew that she did not want to be their sect leader but this time they were trying to make her stay.

Fan Yuqing was the founder of their Heavens Ridge Villa and she had been using two aliases whenever she visited New Empyrean City. It was because she was a great saintess and her lifespan was extremely long, outliving most of the cultivators from the original Heavens Ridge Villa.

Therefore very few people had actually suspected that their Founder and the Acting Sect Leader were actually the same person.

Fan Yuqing clapped her hands with great delight, “Then I am alright with it.”

She rolled her eyes as she pointed her fingers at Lu Qingyun as she said sternly, “Lu Qingyun, from today onward, you are hereby expelled from the Heavens Ridge Villa. The reasons for your expulsion are too many to be put into words. Your expulsion will take effect immediately. From on onward, you are not allowed to step into the Heavens Ridge Villa!”

Lu Qingyun: …

Lu Qingyun: …

Lu Qingyun: …

Lu Qingyun frowned lightly, “Keqin, can you please expulse me after we have done with the visit? I’ve only just stepped into the Heavens Ridge Villa. You don’t have to be so serious about it…”

Fan Yuqing chuckled softly, “No, out you go immediately!”

Lu Qingyun: …

Lu Qingyun: …

Lu Qingyun: …

Lu Qingyun rolled his eyes and asked, “What if I’m not leaving? What will do you with me?”

Fan Yuqing caressed his face gently as she laughed jovially, “Nothing. I’ll just ignore you.”

When she had said that, everyone was laughing jovially.

Their adventures had only just started!

It is a really fun write for The-Good-Nothing Cultivator. I really love the romances between Lu Qingyun and Fan Yuqing aka Qin Keqin. They are from two opposing sides but eventually manage to get together.

If you enjoy the The-Good-For-Nothing Cultivator, please check my next story The Romantic Cultivator here or at Webnovel.

The Good-For-Nothing Cultivator is a sequel to the Fluffy Cultivation and A Martial Odyssey at the same time. There are a few recurring characters from both the Fluffy Cultivation and A Martial Odyssey. It is also an independent read.

It had 450k words or an roughly 450 Chapters. I tend to write pretty long chapters sometimes. (laughs).

Thanks for all the great supports and reads!

I may write an epilogue in the future.

Chapter 239: Lost & Found

Qian Jingjing had asked, “Do we even have a name for our adventuring group yet?”

Just as Fan Yuqing was pondering for a name, a man from the outside had said. “You’re not going anywhere.”

Everyone was startled; it was because this was their hideout and no one was supposed to even find out about this place. Even if they did, they would have ample warnings.

An old man had just entered through the door and he was accompanied by three heavenly goddesses.

They were the Three-Destinies Old Man, the Great Goddess Heaveness Ji Lingfeng, the Great Goddess Heavenly Temptress Lie Qing and the Great Goddess Fan Tian!

Fan Yuqing was startled to see her family all of a sudden.

Lu Qingyun had unsheathed his sword when he saw the Three-Destinies Old Man.

Even Yue Lingxi was startled as she quickly unsheathed her divine sword.

Fan Yuqing smiled weakly at them as she quickly hold them back, “Wait! They are not our enemies.”

Lu Qingyun said bitterly, “This old man is the one that had injured Xingyuan! Last time I am not his match but today I will surely beat him up.”

Fan Yuqing said weakly to him, “You’re not his match. Give it up.”

“Keqin, I’m much stronger than before…”

Fan Yuqing smiled bitterly, “Then go ahead and challenge my father then.”

Lu Qingyun, Yue Lingxi, Tang Xuefeng and Qian Jingjing were all startled, “Your father?!”

Lu Qingyun was stammering in shock, “He is your father?!”

He could only remember that the Three-Destinies Old Man had been playing him around and he was even forcing him to leave his Keqin.

Yue Lingxi nearly fainted from shock. The Great God Pangu was actually Fan Yuqing’s father?!

Tang Xuefeng and Qian Jingjing did not know that Fan Yuqing had a father and who were the three beautiful heavenly maidens that were behind her father then? They all had an unearthly presence and were almost forbidden to gaze upon.

Xuan Danfeng was giggling softly as she thought, “Finally he has come again!”

Three-Destinies Old Man laughed as he looked at Lu Qingyun, “Since you want to fight with me, very well then, we shall have a fight first…”

All of a sudden the Great Goddess Heaveness gave him a soft kick from behind as she warned sternly, “Stop finding an opportunity to pick a fight. We’re not here to fight and moreover, do you want to destroy this place?”

Lu Qingyun had recognized the Great Goddess Heaveness as Fan Yuqing’s mother consort Fairy Jade Light.

So he quickly greeted, “My respects to Saintess Fairy Jade Light.”

“Actually, I’m not her real mother consort. You may address me as the Heaveness.” The Heaveness smiled alluringly as she turned to the Great Goddess Fan Tian, “Yuqin’s real mother consort is here today though. She is the Great Goddess Fan Tian.”

Lu Qingyun was stunned on the spot.

He had been talking to the Great Goddess Heaveness all this while and he did not even know about it?!

The Great Goddess Heaveness was the successor to the One Goddess of the Sovereign Realms, the Great Goddess Fan Tian. All the immortals had to bow in her presence…

The Great Goddess Fan Tian smiled gently, “Indeed I am. My daughter real name is Fan Yuqin although she prefers to be called Fan Yuqing and Qin Keqin nowadays.”

Lu Qingyun suddenly had a swirling daze over his head. If Fan Yuqing’s mother consort was the Great Goddess Fan Tian then her father could only be the Great God Pangu!

He was staring blankly at the ‘despicable’ old man that he had always detested. “Great God Pangu…”

Even Tang Xuefeng and Qian Jingjing were trembling under the divine presence of the four immortals.

Lu Qingyun stammered as he gave a respectful bow to the Great God Pangu whom had always admired, “Please pardon me…for my disrespect in the past…”

He really did not know that the notorious Devil Goddess’s father was actually the most righteous Great God Pangu and he had always wanted to be someone like him in the past.

The Great God Pangu sighed softly, “I was only trying to stop you from seeing my daughter because…”

Lu Qingyun was also sighing softly, “Because I am a desolate cultivator, I know.”

The Great God Pangu smiled, “It seems that you have already awakened your desolate cultivation. I hope that you don’t do anything against the Celestial Realm or fail my daughter.”

Lu Qingyun grinned as he stole a look at the flustered Fan Yuqing, “I won’t. It isn’t easy for us to meet and be together.”

Then the Great God Pangu stole a look at Yue Lingxi and smiled, “It seems that you have now found a powerful untouchable backer. Good for you.”

Yue Lingxi asked curiously, “You’re not bringing back to the Immortal Realm?”

The Great God Pangu smiled, “You can stay here until you got bored. The war is already over.”

Yue Lingxi lit up a beautiful smile, “I won’t get bored of this place, not ever! This is my home!”

The Great God Pangu stared at Lu Qingyun, “Your past reincarnation…”

Lu Qingyun suddenly interrupted him, “Respectful Great God, I’m not interested to know about my past reincarnations. Let the old memories be forgotten. From this life onward, I am just the good-for-nothing cultivator.”

Fan Yuqing interrupted with a sly smile, “He had already taken my specially make triple starforge divine pill. He will never again remember his past life, not even a single fragment!”

Lu Qingyun smiled as he looked lovingly at Fan Yuqing.

After he had learnt that he was once the badass Great Lord Xuan Yuan, one of the three strongest immortals ever in the Three Known Realms, he had asked Fan Yuqing to seal away all his connection to the past.

When Yue Lingxi had first learnt that Lu Qingyun was actually the Great Lord Xuan Yuan, she was also shocked. But she merely commented. “No wonder the Horizon of the heavens seems to be destined to fall into your hands.”

The Great God Pangu laughed jovially as he looked at Tang Xuefeng and Qian Jingjing before he looked with interest at Yue Lingxi and Feng Minyue, “It seems that the five of you are destined to be together.”

Feng Minyue growled softly, “I’m not interested…”

The Great God Pangu interrupted her with a jovial laugh, “The life of a celestial cultivator is extremely long. Things may change according to circumstances. After going through life and death, thin and thick, blood and tears, woes and joys together, do you think that it is so easy to deny yourself?”

The Great Goddess Heaveness giggled alluringly, “He’s speaking from experiences so heed him well.”

Fan Yuqing was frowning, “Surely you didn’t come here to tell everyone who my family is and placing me in this super awkward position?”

All of a sudden the Great God Pangu had tossed a box to Fan Yuqing, “Are you looking for this box and the pill that is inside it?”

Fan Yuqing and Lu Qingyun were both excited as they quickly opened the box. Indeed, there was the Sixth Rank Life-Giver Profound Pill inside it!

Fan Yuqing was giggling softly, “To think that our first expedition together will be a success even before we have started.”

Feng Minyue rolled her eyes as she reminded her coolly, “How can the expedition party be considered a success when it has not even started yet?”

Qian Jingjing added, “And it has no name too!”

And everyone was laughing jovially when they had heard them.

Chapter 43: The Real Arrogant Cultivator (1)

Yuan Ji was now back at the tea house and he was smiling as he said to Li Ye, “Please help yourself with all these dishes!”

Li Ye said respectfully, “Thank you for your hospitalities. I am really honored to share the same table as you.”

Then he took a look at the two lovely young maidens who were sitting at the same table as him, “Maidens, you are not eating?”

Yuan Ji chuckled softly, “They are merely my personal attendants therefore they can’t eat until I’ve finished with my meal. They can only eat the leftovers…”

All of a sudden Yuan Ji could feel two swift kicks under the table that were aimed at him.

Li Ye was stammering as he looked at Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue, “But they are also golden celestials. Is not that nice to call them your personal attendants?”

Yuan Ji laughed. “They just worshipping me that’s all and won’t dare to eat in my presence.” It seemed that Li Ye was not so stupid after all so he decided to change to another approach.

He could tell that Li Ye was constantly looking at the two lovely maidens and was in fact secretly drooling at their lovely appearances.

All of a sudden Hua Wuwu picked up the chopsticks and said coldly, “Who say we are his personal attendants and are his worshippers?”

Hua Baiyue lifted up the rice bowl that was in front of her as she stared coldly at Yuan Ji, “Hmph! Shameless! We eat whenever we want to. Stop sticking gold into your shameless face.”

Yuan Ji laughed jovially as he said, “Look, the dishes are really good.”

Hua Baiyue took a look at Hua Wuwu, “Sister, this is really good.”

Hua Wuwu frowned lightly, “Is that so?”

She took a fearful bite before she said quietly, “Not bad at all.”

Li Ye was smiling weakly as he looked at Yuan Ji, “They are not your personal attendants? Are they your sisters?”

Yuan Ji laughed, “I don’t have two such ugly sisters…”

All of a sudden Yuan Ji was kicked off his seat and he had landed on the ground with a tremendous impact, startling all the nearby guests.

From the ground, Yuan Ji could see that the two lovely maidens were not wearing anything under their dresses except for their undies.

“What a lovely sight…” He began to mutter. “This is the best dishes…”

Li Ye was shocked as he panicky helped Yuan Ji to his feet.

“Palace Master Yuan, what had happened?” He could only see Yuan Ji had suddenly backflip from his seat and did not see the two powerful kicks that were delivered by the two lovely saintesses that were under the table.

Yuan Ji muttered with a weak smile, “Nothing. I just thought of something and was overtly too excited. Haha.”

Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue were both giggling at the same time as they said at the same time, “He is always so clumsy with his hands and legs.”

Yuan Ji laughed as he introduced, “They are indeed my sisters. This is Yuan Wu and this is Yuan Yue.”

He did not reveal their real names to Li Ye because he knew that the two young saintesses may be unhappy with him if he did so. He was already grateful to them for being around him. With two saintesses to ‘protect’ him, he felt a lot safer. This was especially so when he was entering the dark territories of the unorthodox fraternity.

Li Ye quickly greeted them, “Maiden Yuan Wu, Maiden Yuan Yue. You’re also fifth realm cultivators too?”

Hua Wuwu returned a casual nod. They were not revealing to anyone that they were actually saintesses in public or to anyone.

Li Ye smiled, “We are on the same cultivation level. I hope to learn a thing or two from the two of you in the future.”

Yuan Ji was secretly laughing. “My dear Elder Li Ye, they are only interested to be a melting cauldron for their old master. You and I have totally no chances with them.”

Li Ye quickly said to Yuan Ji, “Palace Master Yuan’s sword energies fingers are also quite startling. This profound art of yours can be considered as an epitome level finger energies skill. I’m really impressed by it earlier.”

Yuan Ji returned a rather forceful smile.

It was because he had ‘cheated’ by combining it with the startling recovery speed of the seventh realm sacred saint level.

To the ‘naked eyes’ or rather the divine senses of all the onlookers, it had appeared that he had only the profound strength of a fifth realm cultivator.

Therefore when he had executed his sword energies fingers twelve times continuously before his profound strength receded, it was naturally viewed as an epitome level profound art.

“Brother Li Ye, you know that you should restrain from fighting with a higher realm cultivation expert. This is not the martial fraternity of the Mortal Realm. It is really alright to concede to a higher cultivation expert. Over here, it is not shameful to concede. Moreover we are in the orthodox fraternity. No one will really kill you unless it is a real feud.”

Li Ye returned a deep sigh, “Actually I am quite mindful to get out of troubles. I’ve actually only wanted to cultivate in peace. But do you know that these arrogant supremacies are really too much? They are forcing the vulnerable maidens to drink with them and they are full of vulgarities.”

Yuan Ji had a sudden sheepish look as he said awkwardly, “Actually these vulnerable maidens can always reject their advances. No one is really forcing them to drink with these arrogant supremacies.”

The reason why he was suddenly sheepish was because he was actually one of the many ‘arrogant’ supremacies in the past that did this thing quite often.

It was because the golden celestials that had attained to the Sixth Realm Golden Supremacy Level were in the top 33% of their cohort and even if they did see a lovely maiden with golden eyes, they would just assume that she may be a lower or equal realm level. It was because seventh realm cultivators were the top 1% and were rarely encountered.

Li Ye replied righteously, “When I have cultivated to the sixth realm golden supremacy level, I will beat up these bullies.”

The reason why he was saying quite righteously was because he was trying to impress upon Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue as well.

Yuan Ji smiled weakly, “I’m sure that you can reach the sixth realm level in no time. Ascended Celestials usually have the potential for greater heights.”

Li Ye grinned proudly, “I’ve Palace Master Yuan to thank for that.”

Yuan Ji chuckled with a fake smile, “I shall await the day that Brother Li Ye will be upholding justices for the weak then.”

Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue muttered almost incoherently as they stared at Yuan Ji, “Hypocrite.”

They were actually thinking, “Can’t this Li Ye sees that this shameless Yuan Ji is now forcing us to eat and drink with him as well?”

Actually most golden supremacies like Yuan Ji were only flirting with the maidens that they had encountered. Most of them would never force their wills or use their superior cultivation strength upon the weak. They were mostly all talks and no actions. Although they were shameless but they were still not shameless enough to do so unless they did not want their reputations and faces anymore.

This was the ‘so call culture’ of the Orthodox Fraternity of the Desolate Celestial Fraternity.

Li Ye slammed his fists on the table, “Now I’m on fire! One of these days, I will stop the shameless antics of these arrogant supremacies. Do you know that this is called sexual harassment?”

Yuan Ji smiled weakly as he said silently, “One of these days, you may accidentally offend a saint when he is doing his sexual harassment and you will be bashed up for interrupting his mood.”

When a golden celestial offended or interrupted a saint, he was naturally a fair game for retaliation.

All of a sudden there were loud noises that had come from the lower storey of the tea house. “Young Master, my men have told me that they are still here. You must help me to teach them a lesson!”

Yuan Ji was frowning softly, “It is that Duan Tian again. I didn’t think that he will be back so soon to seek his vendetta. It seems that he is back with someone stronger.”

Li Ye was startled, “Palace Master Yuan, do you need my help?”

Yuan Ji chuckled out loud, “I’m not afraid. At most he can only find a peaked supremacy or someone with a better profound art to deal with me. Even if the helper is a saint, I am not afraid. Haha.”

As he laughed, he was looking at Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue. With two saintesses around him, would he really lose?

Li Ye looked at Yuan Ji with an almost hero-worshipping look, “I didn’t think that I will be looking at Palace Master Yuan’s heroic feats again. It will be a great eye-opener for me again.”

Yuan Ji laughed, “Not at all, not at all…”

All of a sudden his countenance had frozen in place; it was because Duan Tian was now leading a really fine looking young man up the stairs.

When this fine looking young man had appeared, all the maidens including Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue were now gasping softly.

It was because his handsomeness was several notches higher than Yuan Ji and he was the type of man that could make any maidens’ hearts to pace irregularly.

This fine looking young man had a silver fan as he smiled gently and his bearing was extremely enchanting.

But it was not why Yuan Ji had frozen in place. It was because this fine looking young man was actually Ling Feiyue who was disguising herself as a man and Ling Feiyue was a middle-tier saintess!

Li Ye hummed coldly, “It is only a good-for-nothing young master. I’m sure that Palace Master Yuan will be able to teach him a lesson.”

Yuan Ji: …

“Young Master Ling Feiyang! These are the two men that are shaming our protégé clan. Please help us to teach them a lesson!” Duan Tian said angrily.

Ling Feiyang smiled as she trained her golden eyes at Yuan Ji and Duan Tian, “Oh? These are the two arrogant men?”

His smiles were really gentle and all the maidens were now staring blankly at him. Indeed, his gentle smile was like the most beautiful smile in the whole world that appeared to sweep any maiden off their feet.

But to Yuan Ji, it was a nightmare.

He rubbed his chin as he thought, “Although I am about to look for you but I have not readied my plan of action yet. But why am I so afraid of her? She is a saintess. I am a saint too. Moreover I have two saintesses nearby to help me. Three saint cultivators versus one saint cultivator. I won’t really lose…”

All of a sudden Hua Wuwu and Hua Baiyue had stepped back and said at the same time, “We don’t know these two men well. They force us to drink and eat with them!”

Hua Wuwu added with a woeful look, “They force us to accompany them!”

“They are the real bullies.” Hua Baiyue added with a frightful look.

Yuan Ji: …

Yuan Ji: …

Yuan Ji: …

Li Ye was also stunned as he looked at the two lovely maidens and then looked at Yuan Ji, “But…but…”
